The ESRF offers industry privileged, confidential and practical access to its 44 specialised experimental stations, called “beamlines". Each X-ray beamline is equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation, supporting a wide range of experimental techniques for materials characterisation far beyond the capabilities of conventional techniques. When your R&D needs better spatial resolution, faster time resolution, more sensitivity, to study your materials under in situ or manufactirng conditions, or simply to scan hundreds or thousands of samples or a sample library, we may be able to help. Our mission is to support industry in your research and innovation and often high-performance materials characterisation can help. We provide paid-for access and services, on site in Grenoble or samples mailed in from across the world. We work with >100 clients commercially,large and small, and collaborate with companies though PhD students for joint research and European and national funding programmes.

🔍Traditional heart #imaging techniques like #Ultrasound, #CT & #MRI are effective for diagnosing cardiovascular disease but lack detailed structural resolution. Histology offers more detail but limits the field of view. 🚀Enter HiP-CT: a new #synchrotron X-ray imaging technique providing a detailed 3D view of the entire adult human heart. “𝐇𝐢𝐏-𝐂𝐓 bridges the gap between traditional imaging and histology with unprecedented resolution,”🎙️says Professor Peter Lee of UCL. This work contributes to the Human Organ Atlas project (https://lnkd.in/eTq97qJJ), which aims to establish an #openscience image database of all human organs in #health and disease. Peer inside the human heart. Amazing science. This is the most detailed 3D image of a whole heart we’ve ever seen. From the surface down to the cellular level, an advanced synchrotron technique called HiP-CT, developed at ESRF - The European Synchrotron with UCL and the support of the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative has allowed scientists to map the human heart in unprecedented 3D detail. High-resolution 3D imaging like this can help researchers uncover new information about the structures of organs, what goes wrong when organs are diseased and support the development of new treatments for arrhythmia or other cardiovascular diseases. 📸 Brunet et al. 🎉What a fantastic start to the week! On Monday, we welcomed Amadou Hamza Mané and Pascal Voury, the National Contact Points for Research Infrastructures in Horizon Europe to the #ESRF 🇫🇷. Our insightful half-day session began with speeches from our guests, providing an overview of the Horizon Europe work programme and the #FrenchResearch Infrastructures #roadmap and priorities. This was followed by presentations from the ESRF Business Development Office (#BDO) and Collaborating Research Groups (#CRG). 🚀Exciting News in Strain Engineering!🚀 Researchers at the 𝐈𝐃𝟎𝟏 𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞, in collaboration with #NelumboDigital, have developed a groundbreaking tool that expands rigid materials like #semiconductors to their elastic limits. 🆕This opens new possibilities for exploring strain-induced properties! This new device, the "𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐨𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐩𝐞", uses principles similar to a hydraulic press, leveraging elastomers to impose extreme biaxial strain on materials. Validated at ID01 with in-situ X-ray #diffraction and Raman #spectroscopy, it successfully tuned biaxial elastic strain in silicon membranes up to 2.1%.
