Foundation S is dedicated to addressing the challenges faced by patients with rare diseases through innovative solutions and comprehensive support. This year marked the 25th Anniversary of the Gaucher Initiative commemorated by a visit to Cairo, Egypt 🌍 Since its inception in 1999, the Gaucher Initiative, in collaboration with Sanofi and Project HOPE, has transformed the landscape of Gaucher disease management in Egypt. Hundreds of patients have received treatment free of cost, and our efforts have significantly enhanced the capacity of the Egyptian healthcare system to diagnose and manage this rare disease effectively. This milestone reflects our commitment to both raising awareness and improving the lives of Gaucher patients, ensuring they have access to essential therapies regardless of their financial circumstances. To honour this anniversary, we brought together international and local medical experts to discuss advancements in Gaucher disease treatment, share insights through detailed case reviews, and foster collaboration among healthcare professionals. The itinerary included site visits to leading hospitals, a Medical Expert Committee Meeting, and a special anniversary event featuring testimonials from patients and physicians. Whilst we are proud of our work over the past 25 years, there’s still far more to do. We were proud to be joined by Frédéric Oudéa, President of Sanofi and Foundation S, on our trip to Dakar.   President Oudéa delivered three landmark milestones that encapsulate the wide-ranging impact of our work in Africa, with Africa across a range of our key commitment areas:   ✔️ Inaugurating the Foundation S Local Campus Solutions, welcoming over 200 frontline actors from 17 Sub-Saharan African countries. This event showcased the impact of solutions and innovations developed by local communities in response to climate challenges as one of many editions to transform local responses into sustainable and replicable solutions on a larger scale.   ✔️ Sharing Foundation S’s perspective on leveraging the One Health framework as a vital tool for enhancing health resilience in Africa and beyond, during an address at a leading conference on the One Health approach, hosted by the Forum Galien Afrique / Prix Galien International and the One Sustainable Health for All Foundation, in partnership with the Pasteur Institute, Agence Française de Développement (AFD), and Enda Energie (ENDA).   ✔️At a visit to Dalal Jamm Hospital in Guédiawaye, President Oudéa met with an exceptional team of health professionals making strides in detecting childhood cancers more widely, earlier, and more accurately as part of our efforts to transform childhood cancer care in low- and middle-income countries.   Together, these engagements reinforce our mission to empower communities and enhance health resilience across Africa.   #ClimateChange #LocalSolutions #CommunityResilience #SustainableHealth #Dakar2024

The climate crisis is a health crisis and it’s devastating to see the impact this is already having on communities, such as the rural population in Malawi.    Foundation S is proud to be part of a new US$37 million project, together with our partners Save the Children UK, the Green Climate Fund and the Government of Malawi, to protect the health of this population from the devastating effects of climate change.    The ‘Climate resilient health and well-being for rural communities in Southern Malawi’ project will help empower communities to manage the many impacts of climate change on health, aiming to reach one fifth of the population of Southern Malawi - 1.7 million people - directly.     We’re proud to contribute to this project as part of our commitment to climate adaptation funding and our support for innovative solutions to the urgent challenges posed by climate change.     There remains a staggering $366 billion finance gap between current annual funding for climate adaptation and the need, so we are dedicated to closing this gap, fostering resilience, and improving health outcomes in climate-vulnerable communities.    Only by working together can we create a safer, healthier future for the people of Southern Malawi and all communities affected by the health impacts of climate change.    #ClimateAction #GreenClimateFund #SaveTheChildren GSK   📸 Photo credit Thoko Chikondi / Save the Children UK

Today, Foundation S announced the launch of the 2024 My Child Matters call for projects at the International Society of Paediatric Oncology - SIOP.   If you are a healthcare professional based in a low or middle-income country, committed to helping children with cancer and/or have ideas to help innovate in the way childhood cancer is managed in your country or region, then this My Child Matters call for projects is for you 🫵   Launched in 2005 to address the geographic inequality in survival rates and support children with cancer and their families, My Child Matters has aimed to improve diagnosis, access, and treatment for children with cancer in low- and middle-income countries.   The program has supported over 140,000 children and trained more than 51,000 healthcare professionals, through:   ✅ Health Care Strengthening with projects on early diagnosis and health care professional training. ✅ Paediatric care including access to care, pain management and palliative care.  ✅ Family support with projects addressing treatment abandonment.   In 2024, we are prioritizing projects that enhance access to care and early diagnosis, with a special focus on innovative technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML).    Projects will be selected by our high-level expert committee, which includes paediatric oncologists, nurses, family members, and global health specialists.   Submit your proposals by January 6th, 2025 to be part of our life-saving efforts to share experiences and data to accelerate progress in the fight against childhood cancers.   Learn more and begin your application at https://lnkd.in/e7edDEz5.   #MyChildMatters #FoundationS #ChildhoodCancer GFAOP -Groupe Franco Africain d'Oncologie Pédiatrique

Yesterday, Sanofi and Foundation S announced a pledge of a sum close to $60 million USD to support the World Health Organization's Investment Roundover the next four years. 🌍   We were honored to participate in the WHO Signature event held at the #WHS2024 in Berlin, hosted by the German government and Chancellor Scholz together with the governments of Norway and France. Women are often more vulnerable to climate change due to gendered social roles and inequalities that limit their access to natural resources, decision-making processes, and economic opportunities, factors that can be especially prevalent in rural areas.   As we mark International Day of Rural Women, hear from Yacine Diop Djibo, Founder and Executive Director of Speak Up Africa, on why it is so important that women in communities affected by climate change have access to flexible financing.   Our latest Action Report emphasises the importance that locally led adaptation is characterised by local actors – including women – having agency over the design, prioritisation, and delivery of adaptation.    #FromRiskToResilience

Finance for locally-led health adaptation is nowhere near what is needed: 90% of climate financing is not reaching the local level. However, local actors are uniquely positioned to drive adaptation to the health impacts of climate change, and it's through their deep understanding of local health risks and how to overcome them, that we can make an impact. Climate change is the defining health challenge of our time, but the pace of the crisis is rapidly outrunning adaptation efforts.
