😲 Emergency Alert! Parents, Are You Prepared? Parents and families should be at the forefront of protecting children online. However, the facts say otherwise. More than 96% of children said that they did not get online safety education from their parents or family. The results of a survey we conducted in collaboration with U-Report UNICEF Indonesia from August 22 - September 3, 2024, found that out of 4,340 respondents, only 138 stated that they received the most education about online safety from family and relatives. Most (70.1%) said they got this from social media and 18% from schools. This condition illustrates how critical the situation is for child protection online. Increasing parental literacy and awareness is very important. A study by ChildFund International in Indonesia in 2022 showed this condition. Data indicated that 49.1% of teenagers aged 15 - 24 years were involved in cyberbullying while 58.6% said they were victims of online bullying in the last 3 months (find the report here: https://lnkd.in/gdbi5rw5 ) ChildFund International in Indonesia itself has taken many steps. Through various initiatives that we have implemented in the last 3 years, we have tried to approach many parties, from children, parents, schools, communities to the government. For parents themselves, we provide a series of Swipe Safe trainings that aim to increase parents' awareness, knowledge and skills in navigating cyberspace and protecting their children. Help us reach more parents by sharing this post so that more people take action to protect their children online. The voices of children need to be listened to as they have rights that must be protected. The Indonesian Joining Forces, of which ChildFund International in Indonesia is a member, had the opportunity to meet Dr. Ir. Pribudiarta Nur Sitepu, MM., Deputy of Child Rights Fulfillment from the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection of the Republic of Indonesia (Kementerian Pemberdayaan Perempuan dan Perlindungan Anak RI) on October 11, 2024. Together with the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (Komisi Perlindungan Anak Indonesia), and representative of the Indonesian Children's Forum, this was a very important meeting for the advancement of the rights of children and their voices to be represented at the highest levels of government. Children are usually those who are most vulnerable to violence and exploitation, and their protection should be paramount in national and global discussions. For this fact, IJF and the Indonesian Child Protection Commission held national child consultation during September 2024. The result from three regions in Indonesia was presented to key stakeholders on October 4, 2024. and finally submitted in this meeting. It will be an essential input to the newly appointed minister attending the World Ministerial Meeting on Child Protection in Bogotá on November 10, 2024. These consultation results shall inform Indonesia's position in the said global event, while the result will also be used as part of IJF's advocacy to support the ministry in preparing transition materials for a new Minister. These materials focus on child protection issues, particularly on violence against children. As IJF Coordinator, Alowisya Ikis asserts, "IJF is committed to supporting the government in ending violence against children through partnership and collaboration with KPAI, the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection, and other key stakeholders. We are committed to enhancing children's participation in shaping the government policy which places their rights and wellbeing at the heart of public policy." Collective action is needed on the road to eliminating violence against children. Looking ahead, there is a need for collaboration by all sectors of society, government agencies, and civil society organizations to ensure a safer, more inclusive environment for children. -- Indonesia Joining Forces to End Violence Against Children is an alliance founded in 2018, comprising the six most prominent international NGOs (ChildFund International in Indonesia, Yayasan Plan International Indonesia, Save the Children Indonesia, SOS Children's Villages Indonesia, Terre des Hommes International Federation, and Wahana Visi Indonesia). The alliance works with and for children and young people under the age of 18 to protect their rights and end violence against them. • 📍 Mental health matters. Why? Because without it, even the most talented teams struggle to thrive. To commemorate World Mental Health Day, ChildFund International in Indonesia organized a knowledgeable Mental Health Talk with Doctor Teresa Ayu Nainggolan from Pagita Mental Health Clinic on October 14, 2024. The hybrid session was very interactive, as many voices spoke up from many staff members who shared their concern about possible stress and burnout in the workplace. Teresa gave quite useful recommendations on how to foresee, handle, and manage to overcome stress successfully, yet she also underlined what a friendly atmosphere at work can be established. She was able to point out that colleagues and the office might also contribute to making life healthier for everybody. Thank you our engagement committee for the initiative. Let's keep the conversation going because prioritizing our mental well-being is how we unlock our best at work 📢 🔊 How do you promote mental health in your workplace? Share with us in the comments! As a development organization focused on children, disaster risk management has long been a key priority for us. Together with 14 partner organizations across 8 provinces, ChildFund International in Indonesia continues to develop and implement programs aimed at reducing risks associated with natural disasters and climate change. October marks National Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Month in Indonesia, with this year's commemoration held in Aceh, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the Aceh Tsunami. During the national event, Anto Kila from Sumba Integrated Development, representing all of our partners, shared insights on the urgent challenges in East Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara Province. "There are 11 disaster threats in East Sumba, 8 of which are related to hydrometeorology, making livelihoods in the area, particularly for poor families, highly vulnerable," Anto explained. From 2020 to 2022, La Niña impacted the region, followed by El Niño in 2023-2024, which damaged farmers' crops. During La Niña, East Sumba also faced a locust invasion that devastated rice crops. In this region, communities tend to plant rice and corn collectively—when one community plants, others follow suit. This practice means that when locusts arrive, they destroy all the crops the communities rely on for food. At the same time, rising rice prices further exacerbate the economic strain, making it difficult for families, especially those with limited resources, to ensure the health and education of their children. To address this, SID advocates for the cultivation of local crops that are more resilient to climate change and pests, such as tubers, which have been traditionally consumed by the indigenous communities in East Sumba, home to Indonesia's largest indigenous faith community. "Building resilience in the face of disaster threats and climate change requires more than just knowledge—it must be accompanied by action," said ivan tagor, Program Specialist of ChildFund International in Indonesia. Over the past three years, ChildFund International in Indonesia has implemented approximately four initiatives focused on disaster risk reduction. One key initiative has been the involvement of youth and children in disaster management and child protection. Youth have played a critical role in child consultation sessions, providing vital input on children's perspectives. They have also been instrumental in identifying and assessing risks in their villages. In addition, they have actively participated in emergency response and capacity-building programs, particularly in Child Protection in Emergencies (CPiE). Let's work together to protect children. • 💡 Preparing the Next Generation to Excel in the Global Era 💼🌍  With the increasing demand from industries for a workforce that not only possesses technical skills but also essential soft skills, such as communication, leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving, many vocational high school (SMK) graduates still face challenges in adapting to the workplace. To address this, since 2021, ChildFund International in Indonesia has initiated a soft skills integration program into the vocational school curriculum in Semarang Regency, Central Java.  This initiative is fully aligned with the Indonesian government’s priority to strengthen vocational education and prepare young people with the skills needed to succeed in the dynamic and competitive job market. By focusing on soft skills, which complement technical knowledge, this program directly supports the national agenda of improving employability and workforce readiness among Indonesian youth.  📚 And the results? Students who participated in the program have shown higher competitiveness and readiness to face the complexities of the working world.  Learning from this achievement, from October 7 - 11, 2024, ChildFund International in Indonesia and partners will be organizing workshops in 4 cities: South Jakarta, Bandar Lampung, Tangerang, and Bogor, attended by school principals and vice principals responsible for curriculum development. We are honored to have Wikan Sakarinto, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., a vocational education expert and former Director General of Vocational Education at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, as the keynote speaker.  The goal of these workshops is to enhance participants’ understanding of the importance of soft skills for students. With deeper insights, participants are expected to be more proactive in integrating soft skills into the school curriculum. This step not only improves the quality of graduates but also prepares them to become more competent and adaptable in an increasingly complex job market.  ✨ This is just the beginning of creating a generation that is not only job-ready but also ready to contribute to the nation’s development! #SoftSkillsForTheFuture #YouthReadyToWork #ChildFundIndonesia #GovtPriority #SMK #VocationalSchools Husnul Maad Mitra Tobing Meinrad INDRA CAHYA Wishnu Jatmiko

A dozen years ago, when Imel from Malaka, East Nusa Tenggara, first became a sponsored child, none of us could have imagined where she would be in 2024. Time has flown by, and today, Imel speaks fluently about addressing children's nutritional needs. This is what we mean by investing in children. The support from sponsors enables us to design and implement programs and services that help children grow into healthy, educated, skilled, and safe individuals—just like Imel. Imel embraced the opportunity of being a sponsored child by actively participating in various activities. She, among others, attended a national youth meeting in Jakarta dan became a peer facilitator. ChildFund International in Indonesia and Yayasan Karunia Pengembangan Anak's programs, have supported Imel in developing her abilities and skills, nurturing her as an individual who cares for and contributes to her community. Today, with the continued support of her sponsor, Imel is pursuing higher education to become a nutritionist. Her goal is to improve the nutrition and health of children in her village. It truly takes time and the efforts of many to support a child’s growth and development. But just look at the results—young people like Imel, who are engaged and responsible. Let's listen to Imel's mission to improve community nutrition. And if you’re interested in supporting our efforts to expand these programs, giving more children the opportunity to realize their potential, feel free to reach out to us. #ChildFundIndonesia #Sponsorship #SponsoredChild #Nutrition #Malaka Video by Anggia Putri Andrea Husnul Maad Mitra Tobing Candra Dethan (she/her) Tabitha Kale
