To be honest my career in Engineering was largely a result of seeing what courses were available to suit the A-levels that I’d chosen – Maths & Physics. I always remember my friend’s dad at school was a ‘Civil’ Engineer and worked with the local Rivers Agency here in Northern Ireland and I always thought that would make for an interesting career, so I pursued it.   💪 𝗠𝘆 𝗙𝗮𝘃𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁: There are many, but one that stands out is taking the lead on all the temporary road alignment designs associated with the construction of the New Children’s Hospital, Dublin. It was a challenging prospect, ensuring that traffic & pedestrian routes were kept live as well as coordinating designs to align with the Contractor’s phasing plans and other site restrictions. Thankfully, all worked out and the project is nearly the final stages of construction.   🏭 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜 𝗟𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗠𝘆 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸:  No two days are the same. The variety of workload that we get within Ayesa is fantastic. In leading the civils department, the challenges and scale/complexity of projects is very varied and keeps the interest level high. Current projects include onshore windfarm design both Client side and Contractor led, housing developments, large port expansions in the UK, permanent / temporary civils packages across UK/NI including HS2, among others. Our Belfast team is the lead highways team within the UK Ayesa group and thus the opportunity to support other business units across the group is rewarding. 🏗 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗼 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆: During my university placement with DfI Roads, I shifted my focus to highways/civils/drainage engineering. Since then, I’ve gained experience on both the Client side and in a Contractor designer role at Ayesa, which has significantly advanced my career. I also spent 18 months in Dubai working on various exciting projects. Currently, in Belfast, I manage a team of five, focusing on staff development and ensuring they have the tools to succeed. Effective communication and collaboration with Clients and stakeholders are key to meeting project deliverables. 👇 𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐀𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐭 -𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐖𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐒𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝: Ayesa is proud to play a key part in this important footbridge project, which aims to regenerate the Sunderland area and connect the north and south sides of the river. The first two steel sections of the New Wear bridge arrived at the Port of Sunderland via barge last month. Just a few days ago, the final steel section was successfully transported to site and lifted into place, as captured below in the impressive drone footage!👇 ➡️ 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭: The new Wear Footbridge, part of the Riverside Sunderland Masterplan, is currently under construction and expected to be completed in August 2025. Once finished, the bridge will span 30 meters above the Wear River, measuring 10 meters wide and over 250 meters long. It will feature reinforced concrete piers, a steel box girder superstructure, and a precast concrete deck. ➡️ 𝐀𝐲𝐞𝐬𝐚'𝐬 𝐑𝐨𝐥𝐞: As Category 3 (Cat 3) checking specialists, we verified the temporary works for the bridge's construction. 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐩𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐝: ✅Elevated Steel Working Platform: For piling at high levels. ✅Temporary Steel Trestle Tower: To support the bridge deck. ✅Piled Foundation: Supporting the trestle tower. ✅Working Platforms on River Banks: Assisting crane lifts of the bridge deck. ✅Temporary Mooring Bollards: Supporting transportation barges.
