Minister Jennifer Carroll MacNeill TD met with Czech Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jan Marian in Government Buildings today to discuss strengthening Irish-Czech relations, our shared EU membership, the situation in Ukraine and broader issues relating to European security. Minister Marian’s visit to Dublin this week is particularly significant as it coincides with the 35th Anniversary of the Velvet Revolution, the nationwide protest movement which resulted in the end of Communist rule in Czechoslovakia. The largest street art festival in the world, Durga Puja, is a spectacle of art, light and colour; attended by millions of people every year. This year, with the support of the Embassy of Ireland in New Delhi and Culture Ireland, Macnas - Spectacle Theatre Company co-created a massive public art installation with a local Indian artist, Behala Nutan Dal, attracting huge audiences. In 2024, Ireland is celebrating 75 years of diplomatic relations with India, and Ireland at Durga Puja 2024 was the centrepiece of this celebration. The collaboration offered a unique opportunity to showcase Ireland’s culture, creativity and values, alongside our commitment to deepening our partnership with India 🇮🇪 🇮🇳 Together, artists from both countries created an amazing work of art that honoured both the Hindu goddess Durga and the Celtic goddess Danu. This fusion of Irish and Indian creativity offered a visual spectacle that reflected the power of cross-cultural collaboration and celebrated the empowerment of women and the feminine spirit. #ThisisIreland

The Global Solidarity Run takes place tomorrow, bringing people around the world together to show solidarity with those who are forcibly displaced and those living in extreme poverty. From Addis Ababa to Tokyo, Sydney to Toronto, New York to Pretoria and Copenhagen to Buenos Aires, groups of people will come together to run, jog and walk. Thanks to support from Strava, individual runners the world over can take part too and share their efforts through the social network. To take part, simply walk, run or jog any distance on Saturday October 19th (wearing blue if possible!) and post a photo to #GlobalRun2024. To mark #WorldFoodDay, we’re celebrating the Chefs' Irish Beef Club and the recent induction of two talented German chefs. Dr Norah Patten is set to make history as the first person from Ireland to go to space, as part of an international spaceflight mission 🇮🇪 🚀 She will participate in an all-female research mission with Kellie Gerardi from the United States and Dr Shawna Pandya, MD from Canada, in collaboration with the International Institute for Astronautical Sciences and Virgin Galactic.
