Honored to Advocate for Girls' Rights 🌍 I was honored to meet with Minister Paschal Donohoe alongside my fellow Plan International Youth Advisory Panel (YAP) colleague, Tara. We presented Plan International’s State of the World’s Girls Report, which highlights the profound challenges faced by girls and young women in conflict zones. I’m so proud of the work we’re doing, as we continue to advocate for those who can’t always raise their voices. The report sheds light on the heightened risks of sexual violence, insecurity, and lack of access to basic needs like food, water, and shelter that girls in conflict zones endure. During our meeting, we urged the Minister to ensure that the Irish government continues its support through humanitarian aid, with a focus on young people, especially girls who are impacted by conflict. Thank you, Plan International Ireland , for giving us the platform to shine a light on these critical issues and advocate for meaningful change. #GirlsRights #PlanInternational #YouthAdvocacy #InternationalDayoftheGirl #GenderEquality #HumanitarianAid #ConflictZones

Irish Minister for Public Expenditure, National Development Plan Delivery and Reform and President of the Eurogroup. Proud TD for Dublin Central. Book Lover, Optimist.

Today I met with Tara and Marwa from Plan International Youth Advisory Panel (YAP) who presented me with a copy of the child’s rights and humanitarian organisation’s latest global State of the World Girls’ Report. This valuable work highlights the impact of conflict on girls and young women and was released to mark International Day of the Girl last week. Advocating for the rights of girls and women in the way Plan Ireland does is critical to keeping this really important issue front and centre in the minds of those who can influence and make a difference to the lives of girls and women, especially those living in conflict zones. I was so pleased to welcome Tara and Marwa to my Department today and to hear about the valuable work they are doing on behalf of those who need it most. Great work.

  • Pleased to have our Youth Advisory Panel representing Plan Ireland during the European Week of Action for Girls and advocate for girls' rights!

The European Week of Action for Girls took the European Parliament by storm! Young advocates from around the world came together to present their ideas to Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) and to share their priorities for the new EU mandate. Advocates spent the day with the The Greens/EFA in the European Parliament, taking over their social media accounts and creating videos focusing on gender equality and how the EU can best support girls and young women worldwide. They also interviewed MEPs Catarina Vieira and Mélissa Camara about their experience as politicians and their priorities for the next five years. Later in the day, advocates and MEPs joined forces for the "Shaping the Future of Girls' Rights Together" cross-party event, discussing the realities faced by children and young people, particularly girls and young women, and how to collectively create a safe and prosperous future for all. For truly equal societies, we need to work together. Thank you to everyone that made this day possible, including Renew Europe, Socialists and Democrats Group in the European Parliament, The Left in the European Parliament, and The Greens/EFA in the European Parliament. -- Copyright: European Week of Action for Girls, 2024. • 👩🏫 Advocating for Girls' Rights 👩🏫 Today, two members of Plan Ireland’s Youth Advisory Panel, Tara and Marwa, met with Paschal Donohoe to present our latest State of the World's Girls Report. The report highlights the devastating gendered impact of conflict on girls and young women, emphasizing how they face greater risks of sexual violence, insecurity, and difficulty accessing essential resources like food and water. Tara pressed the Minister on how women and youth voices are being incorporated into Budget 2025 decisions, stressing that, “We need to specifically target humanitarian aid for girls, including food, shelter, and services for survivors of violence.” Marwa, herself a refugee from Afghanistan, called for greater financial support for asylum seekers and refugees, urging the Minister to extend SUSI funding to these groups to help them access education and integrate into Irish society. Minister Donohoe responded, affirming the Government’s commitment to protecting girls and women affected by conflict, stating: “Advocating for the rights of girls and women is critical to keeping this important issue front and centre.” Thank you for a productive meeting! #GirlsRights #YouthAdvocacy #WomenInConflict #HumanitarianAid #GenderEquality #EducationForAll

  • 🍽️ School Meals: More than Just Nutrition 🍽️ For millions of children around the world, a meal at school can make all the difference. For girls especially, school meals provide not only nourishment but also a powerful incentive to stay in school and continue their education. When girls receive nutritious food at school, they are healthier, can focus on their studies, and are less likely to drop out to help support their families. In communities facing food insecurity, these meals are often the key to keeping girls in classrooms instead of at home or in the workforce. At Plan International, we know that education is one of the most effective ways to break the cycle of poverty and hunger. By supporting school meal programs, we are ensuring that girls have the energy and opportunity to learn, thrive, and build better futures for themselves and their communities. Together, we can keep girls in school. 🌍✨ #WorldFoodDay #SchoolMeals #GirlsEducation
