We had so much fun enjoying Standard Life’s ‘Second Life’ event, a celebration of the journey to and through retirement, at the Clanree Hotel on October 23rd. Standard Life embraces the belief that retirement is not the end, but the beginning of something new – a Second Life. Second Life is about supporting people to feel confident in their choices, empowering them to explore new opportunities, embrace fresh adventures, and unlock their full potential. We love this message!! Pictured here (L-R) are: Colleen Rock, Menopause Hub Academy Corporate Education Advisor Grainne Schmitz, Brian Mooney, Sonya Lennon, and Alan McCarthy. Standard Life Ireland

Believes we hire the whole human, not just their skills and knowledge, and so we need to invest in that whole human, not just their brains...

Menopause It’s not just a woman’s issue… …it’s a human issue We’re all affected, directly and/or indirectly Today, my wonderful Organisation Enterprise Ireland welcomed in Isabelle Courtney from Menopause Hub Academy to speak to a wide and varied audience about all things menopause. And she was amazing. She gave us facts, stories, anecdotes, the legal element, and most of all she gave us the platform to ask questions and share So we did… We shared stories We felt supported We were educated We listened We empathised We got ideas on initiatives We felt heard And now I’m equipped to roll out even more supports for women, like me, who are experiencing the symptoms of menopause. I work with an amazing team, who I know I can share my bad days with. They will prop me up, they have my back and they are kind beyond words. And I, of course, will return the favour. But not everyone out there is as lucky. So this topic needs to stay top of our agenda. These women - the world over - have worked hard all their lives, in every aspect of their lives. They hit a natural point in their lives which can cause havoc with their abilities and a shocking number in society feel they either cannot share this with their manager and so struggle in silence, or they leave their employment. Thank you to my team, my organisation, and to Menopause Hub for all you do on this topic 🙏

Global Workplace & Culture Manager @ Genesys Proud Principal Partner of Connacht Women’s & Mens Squad.

Two years ago, Graham Day and I started a conversation about menopause in the workplace, and last night at the awards ceremony, I was proud to see Genesys Ireland recognised with a Menopause Workplace Excellence Award. Graham has been a fantastic male ally in this space, and while there are still too few, we need to address this. Let's break the stigma around menopause—not just in the workplace but across society. Thank you to Loretta Dignam, CEO of Menopause Hub Academy, for your tireless work. Loretta highlighted that "the world of employment in Ireland is finally responding to the healthcare needs of women at work." While some women may experience few symptoms, for countless others, the impact can be significant—limiting their ability to work full-time or at all. It was great catching up with Sarah Conlan QFA, APA, PMI from Irish Life Health, Cathal Divilly, and Fania Stoney from Great Place to Work® Ireland at the awards held at Dublin's Royal College of Physicians. As Oonagh O'Hagan, one of the judges, put it: "The commitment to fostering supportive workplace environments for menopause is evident, and seeing this growing momentum is a testament to the progress we are making." Congrats to all the award recipients—let’s continue to set the benchmark for other companies and drive meaningful change together.

34% of women have considered quitting their jobs because of menopause symptoms, while 84% reported a negative impact on their work performance. This is a reality that too many women face. This year, we are proud to have been nominated for and made it to the finals of the Menopause Hub Academy Menopause Workplaces of Excellence Awards 2024. Here’s what we’re doing at Lyreco: 1. Mandatory menopause training for all managers 2. Awareness training for employees available 3. Dedicated menopause policy 4. Menopause awareness sign-posting throughout our Head Office and Regional Distribution Centres. Although we didn't win, just to be nominated recognises our commitment to creating a supportive working environment for women experiencing menopause 💚 #Lyreco #MenopauseAwareness
