About us
New Memories, New Histories l Progressive Design for a Changing World Founded by Akshat Bhatt in 2007, Architecture Discipline is a New Delhi-based multidisciplinary architecture practice. We aspire to create environments that foster happiness and optimism for the future, bringing value to people’s lives. Our work is driven by a context-centric, rational approach of ideation, which is then defined by a highly technical outlook with a focus on flexibility and longevity. Our portfolio spans typologies from residences to large-scale public assignments. Notable projects include the award-winning Mana hotel in Ranakpur, Rajasthan (2013); the Discovery Centre, a town hall for Bhartiya City in Bengaluru (2014), the India Pavilion at the Hannover Messe in Germany (2015), which was adjudged the best pavilion in the 65-year history of the Messe, and the Corporate Headquarters for East India Hotels, for The Oberoi Group, in Gurugram (2019). Urban scale commissions include JDH, an urban regeneration project in Jodhpur; and the Mohalla Clinics, primary healthcare facilities for The Government of Delhi. In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, two concepts were presented at the London Design Biennale in 2021: Life CMF, a community medical facility built from repurposed shipping containers, and the sChoker, a digital neckpiece enabling social distancing. Architecture Discipline’s work is highly acclaimed with its principal Akshat Bhatt being listed in the Forbes Bold Club: Top 30 under 45 Indian architects and designers in 2023. Our work has also won several prestigious awards, including a commendation by Fast Company’s Innovation by Design Awards (USA), Architecture MasterPrize (USA), INDE Awards (Asia Pacific), the Elle Deco International Design Award (EDIDA) India, 6 listings on AD100 as Architectural Digest’s most influential architects, 13 awards from the Institute of Indian Interior Designers (IIID); and citations from the Alliance Francaise, and the Government of India.

“The space between buildings is as important as the space within them — the former belongs to the public, engendering the pleasure of belonging and the seduction of anonymity.” Spread across a 10-acre site, our upcoming housing development is based on the ideas of eliminating the barrier between buildings and nature, enhancing community living with a sense of cultural belonging, and creating a self-sufficient environment with minimal dependency on external sources of energy. The built footprint is kept to a minimum, allowing the apartments to be punctured by green and open spaces that lend themselves to community activities. #Housing #UrbanDesign #Sustainability #Architecture #Design

“Despite the existing structure being seemingly unremarkable, its potential for reuse was quickly identified, acknowledging the material it had already consumed, and its established footprint on the site,” reads the latest Elle Decor India feature on our project, Headquarters for @Delhivery in Goa. Revitalised as a new-age workspace, the project leverages the latent potential of an abandoned workshop and refurbishes it in a resource-efficient manner. The existing structure was stabilised by reinforcing the columns with steel jacketing and replacing the old trusses and roof. This approach made the workspace operable in two months, optimising construction time and minimising the project’s carbon footprint. Thank you, Mrudul Pathak Kundu and Shriti Das, for the feature! #Workplace #IndianArchitects #Architecture #Design #creativity

The integration of advanced design and contextual sensitivity guides the form of our upcoming hospitality project in the Himalayas. Nestled in a scenic valley in Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh, the project’s footprint is optimised to ensure minimum impact on the site, while creating unprecedented immersive experiences. Using responsive geometries, adaptive materials, and cutting-edge technology— the built form honours the beauty of the natural environment and frames views like never before. #Sustainable #Experential #Hospitality #Luxury #Landscape #Architecture #ArchitectureDesign

“This project became a canvas to experiment, innovate, and challenge boundaries," shares Akshat Bhatt with Nidhi Adlakha of The Hindu, discussing the Timber Residence in Vagator, Goa. The home is the first in India to be built using mass timber (glulam), offering structural efficiency and environmental benefits such as carbon sequestration throughout its lifecycle. “If we want architecture to be socially relevant, we need to accept that we are not creating neutral shells, but determining a larger environment.” At the BW Businessworld Masterpiece Conclave, Akshat Bhatt discussed his thoughts on creating Habitats that elevate the Human Experience, highlighting the importance of architecture at the cusp of art and innovation. As technocrats, architects lead society towards a new way of living that nurtures lives and shapes how people interact with their environment. In an epic evening of design, drinks, and deliciously unfiltered conversations, architects-turned-mixologists, Akshat Bhatt and Amit Khanna, took over Monkey Bar, showing us the art of building spaces and mixing drinks. Like good design, a killer cocktail is all about balance — flavours that play together, the perfect chill, and a striking presentation. Featuring the works of Peter Salter and Peter Cook, each drink at The Bar Takeover came with coaster cards as keepsakes from the night! #Mixology #IndianArchitects #Design #ModernArchitecture #IndianArchitects #architecture
