We are honoured to see our Gender Integration partnership with JEEVIKA, Rural Development Department, Government of Bihar, featured in their latest newsletter! Together with JEEViKA, C3 has been actively involved in supporting members of Community-based Organizations (CBOs) to conduct Safety Audits across rural areas, paving the way for gender-responsive and safer public spaces for women and girls. From December 2023 to March 2024, a total of 22 Safety Audits were conducted in key regions. These audits involved mapping villages and identifying crucial areas that need attention, such as safe public transport, well-lit paths, and secure community spaces. Our collective efforts are helping to ensure that women feel safe and empowered in their communities, both in public and private spaces. A big thank you to JEEViKA for the ongoing collaboration on gender integration and for trusting us to be part of this transformative journey. When young people lead, not only do they become positive role models, but they influence community-wide change that centres young people’s needs, voices, and choices. They not only imagine a better world —but build it too! By equipping young peer leaders like Kameshwari, C3 enables this cycle of youth-led change, and her story isn’t the only one. For over two decades, C3 has been training, mentoring, and supporting peer leaders to strengthen adolescent wellbeing in their communities, and to offer key guidance to their peers around the various issues and challenges they face while growing up. And they have had significant impact, in reducing child marriages, in promoting education, and in ensuring positive health outcomes among young people, community-wide. Access to sexual and reproductive health information, education, and care is a fundamental right for girls and women, crucial to their well-being and autonomy.   Over the past decade, Bihar has made remarkable progress in family planning, adding 3.5 million new users. #Panchayat leaders in #Bihar have played a vital role in promoting awareness and access to contraception among young couples, fostering healthier and more gender-equitable communities.   To mark Population Stabilization Month and celebrate Bihar’s family planning achievements, Centre for Catalyzing Change (C3) hosted a roundtable where Shri Mangal Pandey, Hon’ble Health Minister, Government of Bihar, emphasized the importance of girls' education in improving family planning outcomes. C3 is proud to partner with JEEViKA in its Gender Integration Journey! Gender integration within community-level systems ensures that women can access social entitlements and benefits, and seek redressal around gender-based discrimination and violence.   Setting up Gender Resource Centres, better known as Didi Adhikar Kendras (DAKs), across several districts of Bihar, has been a significant step in furthering this gender integration within the Government of Bihar’s JEEVIKA, Rural Development Department, Government of Bihar or the Bihar Rural Livelihoods Promotion Society (BRLPS). Led by their network of Community-Based Organizations (CBO), these centres will act as a one-stop space for discussions and actions around facilitating women's access to social entitlements and preventing and responding to gender-based violence.   Towards achieving this larger goal, through a month-long capacity-building exercise, C3’s technical training on gender equipped 260 participants from JEEViKA, including 70 DAK coordinators, 45 District Resource Persons, and 140 Block Resource Persons from 82 blocks across 19 districts.   These trainings enabled them to understand topics such as power and patriarchy, building consensus on gender-equitable actions, women's access to resources, women’s paid and unpaid work, and prevention of and response to gender-based violence. The training also focused on how DAKs are mandated to work on these gender issues, and how they can provide relief and redressal support to women in communities.   Taking the learnings from the trainings forward, C3 will be working in partnership with JEEViKA to activate the Didi Adhikar Kendras (DAK) as vibrant, responsive desks, fostering an ecosystem where women can confidently seek support and information. C3 Wins Big at the 8th CSR Health Impact Awards! We are thrilled to announce that our initiative to Reduce Unnecessary C-Sections in Odisha, supported by Linde Foundation, has won the Gold award in the CSR Women & Child Health Project category at the #CSRHealthImpactAwards! We have been working in Odisha increase women's awareness about C-sections, promoting non-medicalized labor pain management, and ensuring birth-preparedness and complication-readiness.
