Thrilled to have been part of the groundbreaking National Consultation on Disability Inclusive Sanitation in India, organized by CREA. This pivotal event brought together a diverse spectrum of stakeholders to address the urgent need for inclusive WASH solutions. We were inspired by the personal stories and experiences shared by participants, shedding light on the systemic challenges faced by disabled and marginalized communities. Together, we explored ideas and innovative strategies to identify and bridge the gap and ensure that basic sanitation needs are met for all. As a #WASH #DPI partner, we at eGov Foundation committed to driving change and creating a more inclusive world. Digital Public Infrastructure promises to transform essential public services, making them more accessible, inclusive, and fostering smoother operations between government departments and stakeholders. An e-governance model exemplifying this success is Odisha's SUJOG platform (Sustainable Urban Services in a Jiffy by Odisha Government). Through SUJOG-FSSM, the platform is including every stakeholder of the sanitation value chain, right from citizens to FSTP operators, to avail and track sanitation services in a timely and efficient manner. "What works at scale is not the same as scaling what works." This insight stood out during a recent closed-door event where we deep-dived into the future of DPIs. The workshop brought together diverse stakeholders, ranging from government officials and private sector leaders to multilateral organisations and academia. The goal? To break down silos and create honest, forward-looking conversations on how we can ensure that DPIs are sustainable, accessible, and equitable for everyone. Key themes discussed: Day 1: Focused on educating stakeholders new to the #DPI space, highlighting its potential and the role of public service delivery. Day 2: A more targeted discussion on the future of DPI, bringing in voices from those already within the ecosystem to explore funding models, sustainability, and innovation pathways. The event underscored the need to bring together various perspectives—from policy to market players—to chart a path forward for inclusive DPI. As a team, we had the opportunity to share how eGov’s work in public service delivery aligns with these goals, emphasising our commitment to building solutions that can scale equitably. This workshop marked a step forward for us as we continue to expand into new domains, using our digital solutions to empower communities and support public service initiatives across health, governance, and water management. The DPG Dialogues hosted by Code for GovTech (C4GT) and Samagra | Transforming Governance last week exemplified how modular, reusable, and adaptable #DPGs are accelerating public service delivery. With young technologists driving open-source innovation and experts exploring the integration of AI with #DPI, the event highlighted the power of collaboration across sectors. There is growing evidence that people with disabilities comprise between 5-8% of the Indian population (around 55 – 90 million individuals). Source: Minsitry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, India   Despite existing legal frameworks, many still face significant challenges in accessing safe and inclusive sanitation facilities. This was a core focus of the recent National Consultation on Disability Inclusive Sanitation in India by CREA, which brought together over 70 stakeholders from diverse sectors to address these gaps. eGov had the privilege of joining this conversation to share our insights and explore opportunities to make #WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) systems more inclusive. The discussions shed light on critical areas such as the need for data disaggregation, interoperability across ministries, and accessible infrastructure that aligns with India’s Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act. How can eGov bridge the digital divide and build a more inclusive space? • The importance of universal design principles to make public sanitation spaces accessible. • Creating platforms for grievances and feedback that connect PwDs directly to local authorities. • Leveraging digital tools to empower PwDs and amplify their voices. What’s next for eGov: We’re eager to expand into this new domain, using DIGIT DPG to fortify the #TechforGood space. By designing accessible platforms, enhancing data collection capabilities, and partnering with disability rights organizations, we aim to ensure our solutions drive real change. At the heart of digital transformation is Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI)—the systems, infrastructure, & products that enable governments to engage citizens & deliver services efficiently. DPI includes frameworks like digital ID systems, electronic payments, & data exchange platforms that foster transparency, improve service delivery, & drive growth. However, the success of DPI relies not just on technology but on how communities & industries embrace these systems. Innovation hubs play a critical role in ensuring #DPI truly reaches & benefits the people. At the #GlobalDPISummit in Egypt, I spoke about how innovation hubs scale DPI across Africa. AfriLabs, with its network of 500+ innovation hubs across 53 countries, is seeing firsthand how hubs drive DPI through several key ways: 1. Enabling Innovation: Innovation hubs empower entrepreneurs & startups to develop tech-driven solutions & digital public goods that address real challenges. These innovations bring DPI's backbone to life, creating impactful & inclusive services. 2. Driving Adoption: Embedded in communities, hubs foster awareness & capacity building, introducing citizens to the benefits of DPI. They build trust in systems like digital identity platforms & health-tech solutions that improve inclusive access to services. 3. Implementing Solutions: Beyond ideation, hubs provide the tools needed to implement DPI solutions. They drive sector-specific innovations such as financial technology products & AI-driven language access. 4. Policy Advocacy: Hubs bridge governments & civil society, advising on digital strategies in sectors like agriculture, tourism, & the creative industries. They ensure DPI aligns with local priorities, while AfriLabs scales these efforts continentally through multi-stakeholder dialogues. 5. Building Collaboration: Hubs bring stakeholders together to foster dialogue, co-creation, & innovation. AfriLabs expands this collaboration across Africa through ministerial roundtables, regional events, and the #AfriLabsAnnualGathering, advancing DPI & other critical areas of the digital economy on a Pan-African scale. #DPI holds the promise to revolutionize government services, but its success depends on empowering innovation hubs. By accelerating adoption, driving implementation, & advocating for policy, innovation hubs are the architects of DPI’s success. At AfriLabs, we champion these hubs as the backbone of Africa’s digital transformation, ensuring DPI serves both governments & the people.
