🌐As the Global Plastic Treaty is being discussed across the globe, here is a little about the basic categories of livelihoods attached to the value chain of recycling. However, the categories are not exhaustive and it varies from particular types of waste to different geographies. We will cover most of them in our upcoming posts. #handsonwaste

Have you ever wondered what is in your bin? You can use a simple weekly waste audit to find ways to improve your disposal plans. You can use this process to recover as much waste as possible from the landfill and then sort it further to give it to the waste collectors in a dignified way. You can try this over the coming weeks and share your experiences in the comments section. 💬 #wasteaudit #wasteterms #termoftheweek #wastemanagement #ecovocab

Heartbreaking news from Uganda! During a heavy downpour in Kampala, a vast landfill site collapsed, resulting in at least 18 deaths. The incident highlights ongoing safety concerns regarding landfill management.
The tragic landslide at Kampala's Kiteezi landfill in Kampala, Uganda, which claimed at least 18 lives, reflects the dangers of overexploited unscientific landfills with unstable slopes. When waste is piled up beyond safe limits, and heavy rains saturate the site, the added pressure can lead to catastrophic collapses. There is an urgent need for sustainable waste management practices, and proper landfill management, including maintaining stable slopes, implementing effective drainage systems, and ensuring that waste accumulation does not exceed safe levels. It's not rocket science, yet effective landfill management practices are often overlooked in emerging economies.
