Please take a moment to check out this new symposium on Climate and Development from ODI's Development Policy Review anchored by Annalisa Prizzon and colleagues. In my contribution I suggest that while it may be in the interests of developing countries to do development differently for climate reasons, the technological fact of falling renewable energy prices by no means imply a post-equity climate politics. But with weak prospects for a grand global bargain around climate and development we may be in for messy country-by-country approaches to low-carbon development transitions.
🌍 This year’s written symposium of ODI Development Policy Review is now out. This year we focused on the opportunities and threats of #climate action for the #development agenda. Available at this link 👉 https://lnkd.in/eDccFUmM

NEW: In The India Forum, Navroz K. Dubash & Shibani Ghosh write that the Supreme Court's Ranjitsinh judgment must be viewed as an important step, needing further conceptual elaboration, rather than a fully formed template for Indian climate jurisprudence. They highlight gaps in the judgment (e.g. inadequate attention to adaptation, limited framing of the mitigation challenge beyond RE) and suggest that an appropriately crafted climate legislation could backfill the gaps in Ranjitsinh. https://lnkd.in/gxGCFtxa

"Two things we need to do better to classify heatwaves as a disaster: first, getting a better grip on the death toll numbers, and second, estimating the economic damages due to heat." - Aditya Valiathan Pillai at The Lakshmi Mittal and Family South Asia Institute, Harvard University's session on 'Heatwaves 101 | Part 1: The Science of Extreme Heat'. https://lnkd.in/duKuVvk9
