It has been a month since the devastating landslides in Wayanad, Kerala. My thoughts and prayers remain with the families. The loss of their near and dear ones, houses, belongings, and livestock in these unprecedented landslides, impacting six villages—PunjriMatom, Meppadi, Mundakkai, Attamala, Kunhome, and Chooralmala – will sear our psyche for a long time. Devastation and losses like these serve as a clarion call to work on disaster risk reduction and preparedness in conjunction with communities globally. The ONE Tata Response to the landslides and floods was immediate, launched the very next day. Since then, the Group companies and volunteers have worked silently and tirelessly with government agencies, i.e. the armed forces, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and fire and rescue services, towards providing an emergency response for the affected communities. The efforts included support to the individuals residing in the relief camps, material support to the rescue team workers, and providing tribal families with dry food to last for 30 days—all of which was undertaken in coordination with the District Administration, Wayanad, Government of Kerala. None of the above would have been possible without the Tata Group Disaster Response Cadre - comprising Project Managers and Procurement Officers from 29 Tata companies - who are trained in disaster management and stand ready to be deployed when disaster strikes. Their commitment and readiness are integral to our ability to provide timely and effective support during disasters. I can only salute and laud my colleagues who have volunteered to assist in the disaster response efforts in Wayanad. Your selflessness and commitment to serve communities in need, leaving the safety and comfort of your homes and families, inspires us all. Thank you for working silently to aid those in need. One of the key priorities for the Tata group under project Aalingana, is to preserve nature and biodiversity. This is no simple task. It requires meticulous planning and concerted action at the intersection of our operations with nature. With this in mind, the Tata Sustainability Group (TSG) developed a specialized set of guidelines on biodiversity management, aligned with global standards and frameworks such as #GlobalBiodiversityFramework, IFC PS6 and #SBTN and tailored to the context of the Tata group, with its wide range of businesses. As a first step, TSG organised a syndication workshop on 23rd August in Mumbai and brought together 21 Tata colleagues from 12 Tata companies. It was an interesting setting, with experts from ERM sharing their learnings from working in the field, practitioners from Tata companies putting forth their approaches and challenges and TSG facilitating cross sharing and encouraging collaboration among companies. The group collectively went through the structured approach outlined in the guidelines starting with profiling and baselining, to assessing impacts, dependencies, risks and opportunities, defining ambition and targets, developing action plans and lastly progress monitoring and disclosure. Attendees engaged in a thorough discussion and debate of the main operational dilemmas associated with managing biodiversity at the operational level, and the workshop produced creative and workable solutions for real-world application. @Tata Motors Limited, which has recently joined the @Science Based Targets Network (SBTN) Corporate Engagement Program, was invited to present its biodiversity approach and share the achievements and outcomes of its nature and biodiversity initiatives. The workshop marked significant steps in a long and arduous journey we are undertaking towards equipping ourselves with the right knowledge and tools required to achieve the bold ambitions under project Aalingana. Big thanks to Arun Venkataraman, Mollshree Garg I Managing Partner ERM I KPMG I Deloitte I ISB Hyderabad from ERM - our technical partner and to Mr. Peter D'Souza and for enriching us by sharing their on-ground experiences. #ThisIsTata Chacko Thomas | Abhishek Goyal | Manjula Sriram | Shabdendu Pathak | Naimish Upadhyay | Parameswaran Radhakrishnan | Jasmin Pani | Aditi Misra | Aruna Parimi | Aparna Shukla | Khushroo Tata

At the Tata Group, we believe that fostering a culture of sustainability within organisations is crucial for driving systemic change. A carefully curated awareness and behavioural change campaign like the Tata Sustainability Month can foster a strong sustainability culture, powered by collective engagement and on ground impact. Being the change means integrating sustainability into every aspect of our personal lives rather than treating it as a peripheral concern. Tata Sustainability Month (TSM 2024) underscored this shift, demonstrating how individual actions can lead to widespread transformation. The enthusiasm and personal action during the month created a powerful momentum and as we build on the community spirit and collaborative efforts, we remain committed to advancing sustainable practices and reinforcing our shared responsibility for a greener future. Together, we are not only imagining a better world but actively creating it, one action at a time. Thank you for your dedication and participation. Sustainability initiatives extend beyond individual actions; they impact an entire organisation. When employees embrace sustainable practices, it positively affects resource management, waste reduction, and overall efficiency. The Tata Sustainability Month (https://lnkd.in/drnEBH97) is one such crucial step that the Tata Group takes each year and engages over one million employees on sustainability. Choose an option and tell us why sustainability awareness is critical among an organisation’s workforce, according to you. #TSM2024 #TataSustainabilityMonth #ThisIsTata #TataCares #sustainability
