TUL Foundation and WRI India hosted, a hybrid workshop bringing together cycling enthusiasts of Bengaluru. It was a captivating experience creating the context of the importance of cycling and cycle infrastructure for Indian cities and discussing innovative ways of augmenting cycle infrastructure like median cycle track.  At the same time, it was inspiring to listen to the participants about their ideas on how we can transform cycling in Bengaluru. TUL Foundation and The Urban Lab conducted a Safe Streets and Junction design workshop for the School of Architecture and Planning WoxsenUniversity. The workshop focused on 4 online pre-workshop technical learning module sessions followed by a 3-day hands-on workshop focussed on 7 contextually designed safe junctions. The workshop conducted by Sandeep Paul from The Urban Lab indulged the students in understanding issues, challenges, and design potential as a precursor to preparing design ideations. It also developed learnings at the macro level to understand movement patterns, land uses, city and street structure, Right of Ways, and Cross sections. 'Roadmap to mitigating freight emissions in Ahmedabad Walled City' TUL Foundation organized a workshop on ‘Freight Emission Index’ on 24th February which focused on emission indexing as a tool for cities to mitigate freight emissions. This workshop was part of a study funded by the HVT program of UK-Aid on ‘Freight Emission Index for the Walled City Area of Ahmedabad’. The workshop had a total participation of 70 people, including online and offline audiences from Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, IIM Ahmedabad, academia and students. The workshop comprised three sessions. The first focused on presenting study findings by the TUL Foundation team, emphasizing the impact of vehicle and operational characteristics on freight emissions. In the second session, participants engaged in a hands-on exercise with the 'Freight Emission Index', exploring how various parameters influence emissions. The participants used the index to come up with tangible emission reduction strategies. The final session featured a panel discussion led by Dr Debjit Roy (Institute Chair Professor, IIM-Ahmedabad), Dr Neha Upadhyay (Environment Engineer, AMC), and Mr Amit Bhatt (Managing Director, ICCT, India), addressing challenges and opportunities in implementing emission reduction strategies. Dr. Neha Upadhyay mentioned the role of central and state government bodies to enhance the vehicle scrappage policy and additional environmental compliances. She elaborated on the importance of public awareness regarding the vehicle emissions. Dr. Debjit Roy provided insights on the role of market in optimizing the supply chain and promoting an aggregated freight movement through government mandates. He also spoke about capacity building of private freight operators as driver behaviour plays a key role in vehicle emissions. Mr. Amit Bhatt spoke about the case of electrification and how such a transition can be made economical for both the government and the drivers. He emphasised on the threat to public health as the tail pipe emissions on ground are much higher than the lab-tested emissions. Key learnings: 1.  The study outlined key parameters within vehicle and operational characteristics which impacts freight emissions, and how index as a tool can highlight points of optimization. 2.  Enhancement of vehicle scrappage policy mandates at city, state and central level to help reduce freight emissions. 3.  The importance of market aggregation and its role in reducing vehicle emissions. 4. Importance of driver training networks for the operators of freight vehicles in order to better improve the quality of air in the city. 5.  Effect of older engine types on freight emissions is significant as vehicles continue plying on-road.
