I had the marvellous opportunity to attend the felicitation and farewell ceremony of 22 remarkable women from South Africa who completed their training under the FICCI FLO Solar Mama Project - an initiative aimed at empowering women with expertise in solar technology. This project was a part of FLO’s broader commitment to advancing gender equality and sustainable development on a global scale under the leadership of FLO National President JOYSHREE DAS VERMA The three-month training program was conducted in partnership with The Barefoot College (Social Work and Research Centre) in Rajasthan and led by Immediate Past President of FLO, Sudha Shivkumar. This initiative equipped the women from South Africa with technical skills in the fabrication, installation, repair, and maintenance of solar equipment. The highlight of the event were the heart warming speeches by the women master trainers who had traveled all the way from Tilonia to bid farewell to their students. Their confidence in their craft and the pride in their eyes was very inspiring. Distinguished guests who attended the celebration, included His Excellency Mr. Cedrick C. Crowley, Acting High Commissioner of the South African Embassy in India, Ms. Hena Usman, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Ms. Sowmya Kidambi, Director and CEO The Barefoot college among other notable leaders.
