Chi siamo
The Italian Association of Aeronautics and Astronautics (A.I.D.A.A.) is a national non-profit cultural association. Its members are people and organizations interested in advances in aeronautics and space. A specific section is dedicated to students attending secondary or university courses. A.I.D.A.A. is the second oldest scientific aerospace society in the world. A.I.D.A.A works by organizing conferences, workshops, roundtables, competitions with prizes for studies and research, proceedings publication, and through the international journal Aerotecnica Missili e Spazio – Journal of Aerospace Science, Technologies, and Systems. A.I.D.A.A works closely with national and foreign cultural bodies and, in particular, is a member of the International Council of the Aeronautical Sciences, the International Astronautical Federation, and the Council of European Aerospace Societies. Every two years, the Association organizes national congresses in the regional sections to disseminate the results of the most recent studies, and aeronautics and space research outcomes.

The first edition of the “AIDAA Medals” initiative was an immense success. In this particular year named #AerospaceItaly2024, which closed a few weeks ago, the Italian Association of Aeronautics and Astronautics awarded the first two editions of the “Broglio” and “Gabrielli” medals in recognition of outstanding and noteworthy engineering progress in the field of aeronautics and aerospace. During the 34th edition of the International Congress of Astronautical Science (ICAS), the first edition of the Gabrielli medal was awarded to Prof. Ing. Aldo Frediani, former full professor of Aeroelasticity at Università di Pisa, for his outstanding contributions and innovations in the aeronautical field which enlarged the knowledge of the aeronautical science by leveraging on national and international collaborations and put his figure in the forefront of the aeronautical sector. During the IAC2024, the first edition of the Broglio Medal was awarded to Prof. Ing. Ernesto Vallerani, past president of Alenia Spazio and AIDAA for his outstanding contribution as a pioneer in human space flight. His exceptional dedication has allowed him to reach significant achievements that brought Italy to the forefront of space exploration, guaranteeing Thales-Alenia-Space a world-leading position.

AIDAA is proud to have awarded Nisanur Eker recognition for outstanding performance and commitment during the SGC 2024. It is an honor to support young talents and organizations like Space Generation Advisory Council, which share the same vision of a free and sustainable space for future generations!
Last week, I had the privilege of attending SGC 2024 in Milan as a delegate and celebrating the 25th anniversary of this wonderful congress with participants from 53 countries. As part of the NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Exploration Working Group, I participated in mission planning simulations that replicated NASA's Architecture Concept Review Process. After each simulation, we reviewed our experiences and discussed the difficulties we encountered while representing various stakeholder groups. With exceptional moderation by Bram De Winter, we also discussed the tools and skills we used to execute campaigns and shared our suggestions for improving the architectural planning process. Additionally, I had the honor of presenting our work alongside Paromita Mitra and Diana Andrea Espitia Torres at the end of the congress. The program was packed with several outstanding presentations, but here are my highlights: As a space engineer accustomed to optimizing for lower mass and higher efficiency, it was fascinating to learn about the approach of Hillary Coe and VAST to designing the next generation of space stations. Additionally, the insight from European Space Agency - ESA's Head of Strategy, Heriberto Saldivar Massimi, PhD, regarding ESA's efforts to incorporate the perspectives of younger generations into their strategic planning caught my attention. Another highlight was Jodie Howlett's discussion on the theme of space sustainability. Her talk, which unveiled the UK Space Agency's strategy, shed light on how techniques like in-space servicing and manufacturing could address the pressing challenges of maintaining sustainability in space. At the end of the event, I received an award from AIDAA - The Italian Association of Aeronautics and Astronautics in recognition of outstanding performance and commitment during the congress. It is an honor to receive this recognition from the host of the IAC2024, who has also greatly supported the organization of SGC. Thank you for your support in the next generation of space! I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to SGC Managers Alessandra Vernile and Jessica Todd, the entire organizing team, and the Space Generation Advisory Council staff for their tireless efforts in making this edition a truly remarkable experience. I am certain that we will be reminiscing about this SGC in Milan for many years to come. It was great to catch up with the space community, and I look forward to the next edition in Sydney!

📣 Historic Moment at IAC 2024: Lunar Sample from Chang’e 6 Arrives in Italy! This morning, for the first time in history, a lunar sample collected from the dark side of the Moon has arrived in #Milan for IAC2024. The sample was retrieved by the Chinese Chang’e 6 mission, which launched on May 3, 2024, and collected material from the South Pole-Aitken Basin. After returning to Earth on June 25, 2024, the sample left #China for an exclusive showcase at IAC 024, held at Allianz MiCo - Milano Convention Centre from October 14 to 18, where participants will have the unique opportunity to view it for the first time. The lunar sample was welcomed by a delegation including Christian Feichtinger, Executive Director of the International Astronautical Federation, a significant Chinese representative, as well as representatives of the #AIDAA and professors from the #MUL2 research group of the #DIMEAS department at Politecnico di Torino: Alfonso Pagani, IPC co-chair of IAC 2024, and Enrico Zappino, Executive Project Manager of IAC 2024. This record-breaking edition of IAC is made possible thanks to the collaboration between academia and industry led by AIDAA and its president, Professor Erasmo Carrera #IAC2024 #ChangE6 #SpaceExploration #AIDAA #PolitecnicoDiTorino #DIMEAS #MUL2
