About us
We boost UK prosperity, understand the Universe, and protect our planet and outer space. The UK Space Agency plays a major role in delivering the government’s National Space Strategy. We nurture a thriving space ecosystem – a network of investors, scientists, engineers, integrators, academia, and research labs – and a sector that generates an annual income of £17.5 billion and employs nearly 50,000 people across the country. Our staff include scientists, engineers, commercial experts, project managers and policy officials who: - catalyse investment to advance space-based technology and maximise UK space sector growth - deliver missions and capabilities that responsibly meet national needs and advance our understanding of the Universe - champion the power of space to inspire people, offer greener, smarter solutions and support a sustainable future To achieve the greatest impact in these three areas, we focus most of our resource behind eight delivery Priorities. These are: - launch: supporting satellite launch services from UK spaceports - sustainability: taking a leading role in keeping space safe and accessible now and in the future - discovery: supporting space science and exploration missions - innovation: investing in bold new technologies - levelling-up: boosting space investment and jobs across the country - Earth observation: studying our planet to drive discovery and tackle climate change - low-Earth orbit: delivering vital everyday satellite services - inspiration: inspiring new space customers, investors and the next generation

This month, our Director of Launch Matt Archer, and staff from our Cardiff office, visited two companies - SmallSpark Space Systems and Space Forge - that are part of Wales’s growing space sector. 🛰 Small Spark presented their CIPHER hardware, built in Cardiff, which helps spacecraft manufacturers and users focus on essential system requirements, reducing mission time and costs. 🔲 Space Forge CEO and co-founder Josh Western took the team on a tour of their factory and gave an insight into their plans for future growth. 📈 Space Forge secured £7.9 million in 2023 via the UK Space Agency Space Clusters Infrastructure Fund (SCIF) to establish a first-of-its-kind National Microgravity Research Centre.
