This week a delegation led by the UK Space Agency, including representatives from CAA and academia attended the 43rd annual meeting of the Inter-Agency Space Debris Coordination Committee (IADC) - a key technical body composed of space agencies who coordinate their research and use this to inform guidelines on debris mitigation. 🌍 🛰️ Our Chief Engineer Andrew Ratcliffe will Chair the committee for the coming year and we look forward to supporting its future work!

We’re pleased to announce the winner of the Aqualunar Challenge! 🥁 The SonoChem System by NAICKER SCIENTIFIC has been awarded the top prize for its innovative approach, generating millions of tiny bubbles in melted lunar ice to produce clean, drinkable water for astronauts. 🌒 🚰 With NASA’s Artemis programme aiming to establish a permanent crewed base on the Moon, developing technologies like these is critical to making lunar habitation possible. 🌍➡️🌕 Congratulations to our winners and runners-up: 🏆 Winner (£150k) – Naicker Scientific 🥈 First runner-up (£100k) – FRANK by RedSpace 🥉 Second runner-up (£50k) – AquaLunarPure by Queen Mary University of London This £1.2 million international prize was delivered by Challenge Works (Nesta) in collaboration with the Canadian Space Agency | Agence spatiale canadienne and Impact Canada, as part of the UK Space Agency’s International Bilateral Fund. Today we say goodbye to Milky way sky-mapper ESA Gaia, which has now completed its sky-scanning and will be switched off. 🥹👋 Launched in 2013, Gaia has created the most detailed ever survey of stars in our galaxy. 🌌 UK scientists and engineers have played key roles in the design and build of Gaia and delivering the science - funded by the UK Space Agency and the STFC.
