    🎙️ La scorsa settimana ho avuto il piacere di partecipare e intervenire come relatore alla roundtable dedicata al #Foodtech dell’Italian Innovation Roadshow, programma di InnovUp nato per diffondere la cultura dell'#OpenInnovation nei territori italiani, e ospitato da CIRFOOD nella stimolante sede del CIRFOOD DISTRICT. 💡 È stata una preziosa opportunità per raccontare l’approccio della FoodTech Acceleration Platform nel supportare i nostri partner verso la diffusione trasversale di una cultura imprenditoriale aperta per fare leva su un’innovazione ecosistemica. Cultura e approccio imprescindibili nel contesto evolutivo di mercato, che richiede a tutti gli stakeholder cicli di innovazione più rapidi ed efficaci e che vede la convergenza di diversi settori, un tempo non comunicanti. 🤝 Sono felice di aver condiviso questo momento di confronto con diversi colleghi del settore, tra acceleratori, fondi di investimento, corporate e startup, per discutere delle attività e delle sfide quotidiane nel portare valore all’ecosistema agri-food italiano. 🙏 Ringrazio gli organizzatori, i panelist e tutti i partecipanti per il prezioso contributo e la volontà di rendere possibile un dialogo costruttivo e orientato al futuro. Eventi come questo sono fondamentali per stimolare sinergie e collaborazioni accelerando lo sviluppo dell’ecosistema Agri-Food italiano che ha grandi possibilità di crescita. 🚀 ---- ENG 🎙️ Last week, I had the pleasure of participating and speaking as a panelist at the #Foodtech roundtable of the Italian Innovation Roadshow, a program by InnovUp aimed at spreading the culture of #OpenInnovation across Italy, hosted by CIRFOOD in the inspiring CIRFOOD DISTRICT. 💡 It was a valuable opportunity to share the approach of the FoodTech Acceleration Platform in supporting our partners in spreading an open entrepreneurial culture to leverage ecosystem innovation. This culture and approach are essential in an evolving market context that requires all stakeholders to adopt faster and more effective innovation cycles, witnessing the convergence of various sectors that were once separate. 🤝 I am delighted to have shared this moment of discussion with various colleagues in the sector, including accelerators, investment funds, corporates, and startups, to discuss daily activities and challenges in bringing value to the Italian agri-food ecosystem. 🙏 I thank the organizers, panelists, and all participants for their valuable contributions and willingness to enable a constructive and forward-looking dialogue.   • 🚀 Innovation and Tradition: Our Commitment to the Food Sector! 🍽️ On the 20th December 2023 at the Chamber of Deputies in Rome, our Partner Cristiano Camponeschi gave a speech during the “Eccellenze Made in Italy” event, where crucial themes about the future of Italian agrifood sector were addressed 🌍. Let’s have a look at the main topics discussed during his intervention: 🌟 Made in Italy: A Successful Brand! Made in Italy is a mark of excellence and it's a fundamental pillar for the country. If it was a company, it would most likely be recognized as a product processing one and it would have a turnover of around EUR 263 billion! 📈 Innovation in the Italian AgriFood Sector: the role of Public Institutions Innovation in the private food sector in Italy is steadily growing, but considering that a 3% of the global food production comes from Italy, investments in agritech are still proportionally low compared to the contribution to production. Fortunately, Italian PNRR public funds are helping reversing this trend, designating a sum of EUR 5.27 billion to the development of Circular Economy and Sustainable Agriculture. 💡 Products Innovation: a Challenge and an Opportunity While Innovation on models, processes and channels is a current trend, some companies still feel threatened by radical product innovation. Hence, the challenge of promoting R&D and innovation as a lever for acceleration, competitive differentiation and de-risking for product transformation, represents a key opportunity to make these products even more valued. 🌱 Innovation and Sustainability: an Essential Connection Finally, also as a response to market demands, Innovation and sustainability have now reached an authentic interconnection, focusing for example on channels, customer experience, and new products that can further enhance the Made in Italy.     🛵🛒Escape from Quick Commerce: the reshaping of the food delivery sector The Quick-Commerce effect signaled a transformative shift in retail over the past few years, prompting the industry to reimagine traditional commerce models. According to AgFunder, $9.2 billion dollars was invested in agrifoodtech ventures in Europe in 2021 and similar to the global scene, investors mostly backed online grocery ventures and other asset-light downstream technologies. European e-Grocery startups raised $4.2 billion, representing 43% of Europe’s total agrifoodtech investment capital and a 1,300% year-over-year jump. However, nowadays the trend is going towards a major scaling and consolidation of a few players and this is confirmed by a declining global funding of more than -35% for meal delivery, eGrocery, cloud retail and midstream technologies. It is not surprising then, that the quick grocery delivery service Getir, has recently announced its departure from Italy, Spain, and Portugal, aiming to focus its resources on more profitable markets such as the UK, the US, Germany, the Netherlands, and Turkey. This move comes as the quick commerce sector faces a complex crisis driven by a variety of factors, such as: 📉 Evolving Economic Landscape: The q-commerce model hinges on lightning-fast deliveries, necessitating efficient warehouses networks and delivery routes. Companies are now struggling to maintain this high standard and are grappling with operational costs. 💰 Funding Fluctuations: Though the quick commerce sector saw significant venture capital inflows in 2020 and early 2021, recent shifts in the stock market and rising interest rates have led to reduced funding availability for q-commerce startups. 🔥 Fierce Competition: Intense rivalry within the sector has spurred price wars, further eroding profit margins. Companies are vying for market share, often sacrificing sustainable profitability in the process. 🌱 Sustainability and Labor Concerns: worries over worker conditions and the overall sustainability of the quick commerce model are prompting stricter regulatory attention, potentially reshaping the industry's landscape. This reshaping of the food delivery sector could impact prices as reduced competition might prompt remaining platforms in Italy to raise delivery fees. A recent Inapp survey revealed that food delivery platforms ask for an average 18.2% commission from around 19,000 Italian businesses using their service. Additionally, impending changes in EU regulations might even further escalate costs. Adapting to this evolving landscape requires modern businesses to strategically navigate these challenges and embrace innovation for a continued success.
