🇮🇹 Qualche giorno fa sull’autorevole testata giornalistica inglese The Guardian è stato pubblicato un articolo che ci riguarda, sul tema sempre molto attuale della #coesistenza con il #lupo. Le nostre attività si intrecciano quotidianamente con i lupi che abitano il nostro paesaggio, ma anche con le storie di portatori di interesse che possono avere un approccio più o meno simile al nostro. Il lavoro di Rewilding Apennines vuole dare spazio tanto ai lupi e alla natura selvaggia quanto alle persone che vivono questi territori, dimostrando non solo che è possibile ma che i benefici della coesistenza sono alla portata di tutti. Our activities intertwine daily with the wolves that inhabit our landscape, as well as with the stories of stakeholders who may have a more or less similar approach to ours. The work of Rewilding Apennines aims to give space to both the wolves and the wild nature, as well as to the people who live in these territories, demonstrating not only that coexistence is possible but also that the benefits of it are within everyone's reach. 🇮🇹 Durante il #WorldRewildingDay alcuni membri del nostro team e un gruppo di #volontari hanno trascorso una giornata insieme a circa 35 #studenti del Liceo G. Milli di Teramo, con l’obiettivo di approfondire le conoscenze sul ruolo ecologico dei #grifoni e sulle attività di monitoraggio che Rewilding Apennines svolge nei confronti di questa importante specie. Il luogo dell’incontro è stato #PetrellaLiri, uno dei siti di nidificazione delle diverse colonie di grifone che popolano l’#appenninocentrale. Grazie all’ausilio di strumenti ottici, è stato possibile osservare in parete alcune coppie nidificanti, oltre che apprezzare i grifoni volteggiare sulle teste via via che l’aria si scaldava e si formavano le correnti termiche, fondamentali per il volo di questi uccelli veleggiatori. Inoltre, si è svolta anche una visita di approfondimento presso uno dei nostri pannelli informativi, dedicati all’ecologia dei grifoni, alle cause di mortalità e alle buone pratiche per evitare il disturbo agli uccelli. Gli studenti sono stati anche sfidati in una gara di ricerca della carcassa, utilizzando il GPS e le coordinate presenti nel nostro archivio che indicavano un cluster di alimentazione in zona. I gruppi sono stati aiutati dai nostri volontari, veri esperti della ricerca dei punti GPS poiché svolgono questa attività settimanalmente, e hanno colto l’occasione per praticare la lingua inglese interagendo direttamente con loro. Dara Brodey, Nicolò Borgianni, Fabrizio Cordischi --- 🇬🇧 During #WorldRewildingDay, some members of our team and a group of #volunteers spent a day with about 35 #students from Milli High School of Teramo, focusing on deepening their understanding of the ecological role of #GriffonVultures and the monitoring activities that Rewilding Apennines conducts for this important species. The meeting took place in Petrella Liri, one of the nesting sites for various colonies of griffons that inhabit the #centralapennines. With the help of optical instruments, we were able to observe some nesting pairs on the cliffs, as well as enjoy watching the vultures soaring above us as the air warmed up and thermal currents formed, which are essential for the flight of these soaring birds. Additionally, we conducted an in-depth visit to one of our information panels dedicated to the ecology of the griffon vultures, their causes of mortality, and best practices to avoid disturbing the birds. The students were also challenged in a scavenger hunt for carcasses, using GPS and coordinates from our archive that indicated a feeding cluster in the area. The groups were assisted by our volunteers, who are true experts in GPS point searching as they carry out this activity weekly, and they seized the opportunity to practice their English by interacting with them. 🇮🇹 A pochi giorni dal #WorldRewildingDay, nella #RiservaNaturaleZompoloSchioppo sono previsti nuovi #rilasci di #trotemediterranee! Circa 2500 avannotti di trota mediterranea, caratterizzati geneticamente, costituiscono il nuovo stock di pesci che saranno rilasciati nel torrente Romito, a #Morino, afferente al bacino idrografico del fiume Liri, consentendo così di rinvigorire l’#ecosistemafluviale. La trota mediterranea, attualmente denominata Salmo ghigii, ha subito negli ultimi decenni un forte declino legato all’introduzione di ceppi di trota di provenienza alpina ed europea. Approximately 2,500 genetically characterized Mediterranean trout fry will be released into the Romito stream in Morino, part of the Liri River basin, thereby revitalizing the #riverecosystem. The Mediterranean trout, currently referred to as Salmo ghigii, has experienced a significant decline in recent decades due to the introduction of alpine and European trout strains. The ongoing conservation project in the Zompo Lo Schioppo Regional Reserve is led by Prof. amilcare d'orsi and Prof. Marco Seminara, with support from the Rewilding Apennines team and sponsorship from Rewilding Europe. #rewildingtogether Last Friday, following hatching and necessary development, a first batch of about 2,000 fry was released into the Romito stream, with an additional release of the remaining 500 young specimens planned for later. 🇮🇹 Al via il #programmaeducativo #LIFEBearSmartCorridors! Nelle Comunità a Misura d’Orso dell’Appennino centrale è iniziato un percorso educativo che accrescerà la consapevolezza di bambini e ragazzi sulla coesistenza uomo-orso. Da qualche settimana, infatti, Rewilding Apennines, #SalviamolOrso, la Riserva Naturale Regionale Monte Genzana Alto Gizio con la #CoopValleluna stanno incontrando centinaia di studenti delle scuole dell’infanzia, primaria e secondaria di primo grado nella Valle Peligna. Inoltre, le due ONG si sono attivate nelle Comunità a Misura d’Orso Alto Molise e Valle Roveto-Ernici, in quest’ultima congiuntamente con la Riserva Naturale Zompo lo Schioppo e la Coop Dendrocopos. “Sin dal primo incontro in classe i piccoli studenti si stanno dimostrando molto ricettivi e particolarmente curiosi sull’orso marsicano. È facile creare connessioni tra i bambini e l’orso; più difficile è costruire la consapevolezza che la coesistenza sia il giusto approccio per vivere in questo paesaggio in futuro, con la speranza che possano continuare a godere della presenza di questa straordinaria specie”, ha affermato Angela Tavone, Communications Manager di Rewilding Apennines, la quale, con le sue colleghe #SerenaFrau, #StefaniaToppi ed #ErminiaLiberatore, sta conducendo il programma educativo LBSC. In the Bear-Smart Communities of the Central Apennines, an educational initiative has begun to raise awareness among children and teenagers about human-bear coexistence. For several weeks now, Rewilding Apennines, Salviamo l’Orso, the Monte Genzana Alto Gizio Nature Reserve, and Coop Valleluna are engaging with hundreds of students from kindergartens, primary schools, and lower secondary schools in the Peligna Valley. Additionally, the two NGOs have taken action in the Bear-Smart Communities of Alto Molise and Valle Roveto-Ernici, the latter in collaboration with the Zompo lo Schioppo Nature Reserve and Coop Dendrocopos. "From the very first classroom meeting, the young students have shown great receptiveness and curiosity about the Marsican bear. It's easy to create connections between children and bears; the more challenging part is building awareness that coexistence is the right approach to living in this landscape in the future, with the hope that they can continue to enjoy the presence of this extraordinary species," stated Angela Tavone, Communications Manager of Rewilding Apennines, who, along with her colleagues Serena Frau, Stefania Toppi, and Erminia Liberatore, is leading the LBSC educational program.
