We're excited to share a behind-the-scenes look at how we extract our chestnut tannin. 🌿 Sustainable Sourcing: We start by responsibly sourcing chestnut wood, which is then carefully chipped into small pieces. 🔥 Eco-Friendly Extraction: Similar to brewing a large batch of tea, these chips are steeped in autoclaves using only hot water. This gentle process allows the tannin to release gradually, ensuring maximum extraction without the use of harsh chemicals. 💧 Concentration to Perfection: After extraction, the liquid tannin is concentrated to enhance its rich properties. Through a spray drying process, the chestnut tannin is transformed into a fine powder, ready for global distribution. The world’s first Nature Restoration Law has been approved! 🌍✨ Backed by the European Environment Agency , this groundbreaking initiative aims to restore 20% of the EU’s land and seas by 2030 and all ecosystems in need by 2050. As @Onu explained, this means “to prevent, stop and reverse the damage to our biodiversity.” Despite Italy voting against it, we at Silvateam firmly believe in the necessity of taking concrete actions and making choices that ensure a healthier, safer planet. This is reason behind the recent foundation of Ledoga Agricola, a new legal entity within our Group devoted to managing wood sourcing, including ownership of chestnut woodlands that are PEFC certified. 🌳 By directly caring for our raw materials in their natural habitats, we are elevating our commitment to the environment and ensuring a completely sustainable supply chain. This Sunday, we celebrate World for Nature Conservation Day, a reminder that a healthy environment is the foundation of a healthy society. It’s a day dedicated to spreading awareness of how crucial it is to safeguard the biodiversity and natural resources of our planet. What we are doing in Argentina at Indunor S.A. is certainly a concrete action to answer this call for natural resource preservation. At our cutting-edge power plant, SERSA (Silvateam Energía Renovables S.A.), we transform leftover biomass from the Quebracho tannin extraction process into 100% renewable energy. Our green energy, certified by I-REC and validated by the International REC Standard foundation, is injected into the local power grid, supplying electricity of approximately 75Gwh / year or the equivalent of 26,000 households and avoiding the use of fossil fuels which permit to save 15.501.697,84 CO2 eq each year. We are proud to contribute to reducing reliance on fossil fuels by maximizing the efficiency of our truly circular processes.
