Authentic Japan has released on their (Japanese) website details of their new ELTRES enabled tracker under the "Coco-Heli GPS+" brand. You can find more details below, with a translation of the main points of the original article at https://lnkd.in/gD4AcRsh ----- What are the challenges so far? In the absence of information on the mountain area to be searched, we could not take advantage of "direct communication," which is the strength of Coco-Heli. Coco-Heli's strength is "direct communication," which we have refined. As long as the search area is known, the radio wave of the transmitter is supplemented by the receiver in the sky. It is possible to narrow down the maximum distance from 20 km to 0 m. However, when no mountain climbing report has been submitted and there is no information about the mountain area to be searched (for example, when the person in distress only told his family that he was going to go to the mountain in Gunma), the search could not take advantage of Coco-Heli's strength of direct communication, and the search was prolonged. Solution Uses "GPS" in addition to direct communication. To show GPS history of travel from your home to the trailhead. Therefore, in addition to the functions of previous transmitters, we adopted GPS utilizing Sony Group's Iot network. As a result, the GPS history of the member's travel by car or train from his/her home to the trailhead will be temporarily stored on Coco-heli's server. And even in the unlikely event that the member has not submitted a mountain climbing report, the GPS history will be checked to ensure that the member knows when, which prefecture, and which mountain he/she entered. Beyond that, Coco-heli's strength is to search by direct communication, which can lead to early detection by the member. In other cases, the GPS is also effective for those who change their mind just before the start of a mountain trip, climb a mountain completely different from the mountain listed in the mountain climbing report and get lost, or forget to contact the family or the police because the smartphone runs out of battery. #eltres #sonyeltres #safety #tracker #iot #iotcommunity #cocoheli #mountain #mountainclimbing #hiking #lost

On 2024/1/16 at a Sony Network Communications Event in Tokyo, Authentic Japan president Kuga announced that they would supply 150 children's lifejackets, each equipped with an ELTRES-enabled transmitter to improve marine safety for tourist boats in the Shiretoko National Park in Hokkaido. ELTRES can communicate over long distances, and the high sensitivity allows reception even when the transmitter is close to the water. Transmitter power is constant no matter how far from the receiver base-station, so the battery life does not deteriorate quickly as can occur with cellular-based devices. We're very excited that our partner company Authentic Japan has released new devices which include ELTRES for the Japanese market, targeted at mountain climbing as well as marine activities. Below is a rough translation of the original article at https://lnkd.in/gXtUMydv --- Translated Article --- "COCOHELI" to help find people lost in the mountains, "COCOHELI GPS+/SUMMIT" equipped with GPS on transmitter, and "COCOHELI Marine" for marine sports are now available. 1/17 (Wed) 7:31  AUTHENTIC JAPAN Co., Ltd., the operator of the mountain distress prevention system "COCOHELI," started to offer "COCOHELI GPS+/SUMMIT" and "COCOHELI Marine" for marine sports on January 16.  COCOHELI is a mountain distress countermeasure system using Sony Network Communications Corporation's "ELTRES" LPWA service. The system includes compensation services for search and rescue operations in distress, as well as search and rescue services, and users are provided with search transmitters.  ELTRES is characterized by its ability to communicate even in areas where mobile phone signals cannot reach, such as mountainous areas. COCOHELI's search and rescue service is a "direct communication" system in which helicopters detect transmitter signals. Since its launch in 2016, the service has handled 324 cases, including search and discovery in 34 cases, and coordination and search cooperation with police and fire departments nationwide in 95 cases. It has 150,000 paid members.  In COCOHELI GPS+/SUMMIT, the transmitter is equipped with GPS. By narrowing down the search area based on the location information obtained by GPS as well as direct communication, the search time can be greatly shortened.  GPS location information is transmitted from the transmitter to the base station every three minutes within the range of ELTRES. Location information can be checked not only by search agencies but also by family members using smartphones. If the battery is low, radio waves for direct communication will be sent for two months.  COCOHELI SUMMIT is a COCOHELI GPS+ plan with death and injury compensation and admission and hospital coverage. The annual fee is 18700 yen for COCOHELI SUMMIT and 13200 yen for COCOHELI GPS+. The basic COCOHELI is 5500 yen. A separate admission fee of 3300 yen is also required.  COCOHELI Marine is COCOHELI's service for marine sports. Members are provided with GPS-equipped transmitters and search and rescue services. Following up on the marine theme, this is a translation of a Japanese article about a company who is planning to produce lifejackets with ELTRES technology. The original article (in Japanese) by The Sankei News can be found at the link below. https://lnkd.in/gDC63MSQ Early Detection of Tsunami Victims Life Jackets with GPS Demonstrated in Minami-sanriku Town With the aim of finding and rescuing tsunami victims as soon as possible, a rescue company named "Guardian 72" (based in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo) conducted a demonstration test of a life jacket with GPS function in Minami-sanriku Town, Miyagi Prefecture, and confirmed its effectiveness. The company will provide location information received by GPS to disaster response organizations as early as next year and will expedite its practical application to detect tsunami victims and others as early as possible. In Minami-sanriku, 831 people were killed in the March 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, and 211 of them remain missing. Kazukiyo Takahashi, 63, who was in charge of dealing with the bereaved families at the time, felt firsthand that there was a big difference in the grief of the bereaved families due to the discovery of the bodies of the victims compared to those who went missing. "Even if you make a grave while crying after the earthquake, the inside is empty. Some of the bereaved families put soil from their homes inside the grave because they couldn’t find the body. It's too bad to put your hands together on such a grave." Takahashi consulted with Masami Arima, 61, president of Guardian 72, a company that handles disaster response systems, and found that life jackets with GPS were effective for the early rescue and detection of marine disasters. The life jackets are equipped with GPS transmitters, and the communication system uses ELTRES, a low-power long-distance communication system developed by Sony. If there is line-of-sight to the receiver it is possible to receive signal even more than 100 kilometers away. In theory, 10,000 signals containing GPS information can be handled simultaneously. "This system can help with recent diver and small vessel accidents" said Kenji Arashima, senior project manager at the company's business promotion division. In the demonstration test, a diver wearing a GPS life jacket floating five kilometers off the coast of Minamisanriku was able to be located instantly. The Guardian 72 will make life jackets and GPS receivers, and will introduce them to coastal municipalities, diving shops and other related organizations next year. More Information: ELTRES is an LPWA technology which can transmit at long distances (over 100 km) and at high speeds (over 100 km/h) with low power (25mW). Recently, Japanese TV station FNN reported on an experiment in Okinawa prefecture using an ELTRES transmitter built for divers. A translation of the article appears below, and you can also watch the YouTube video (in Japanese) as well. Title: Device to prevent water accidents: Can transmit position 100km from land floating in the sea. Article: Amid a series of water accidents this month, including the death of one person diving off Iriomote Island and the disappearance of another, a demonstration test of a device developed to reduce the number of marine leisure accidents was conducted in Ishigaki City. A company in Naha City has developed a human-wearable GPS transmitter device. Even when the transmitter and the receiver are located more than 100 kilometers away, the location information can be shown on a smartphone or tablet. The device is waterproof, and the battery lasts a long time, so it is expected to prevent accidents if used for diving and other marine uses. Mr Iino, President, Quadra Planning Co., Ltd. said "People watching over the divers can realize that it is dangerous to go any further. Not saving people after they get into danger but preventing marine accidents from occurring in the first place." In a demonstration test, the company succeeded in tracking down equipment that had been previously drifted from Ishigaki Port and recovered it off Taketomi Island, and officials said they hoped to reduce the number of accidents by increasing its use.
