An exciting report on how the Collective Service worked with UNICEF Zambia, the DMMU, the Ministry of Health, ZNPHI and the University of Zambia supported by SSHAP to rapidly collect community insights into how the drought was affecting communities in May 2024 and how those insights changed how the government and partners responded to address community concerns. Building on the technical support for rapid qualitative assessments provided during the cholera outbreak, Zambian partners were able to collect community perceptions in 4 affected districts, synthesise rapidly and share with decision makers, identifying key protection issues affecting women and children for rapid response. The UN Secretary General’s guidance note on Behaviour Science recognizes Social and Behaviour Change #SBC as a critical strategy for achieving SDGs. Much of our work involves changing human behaviour, such as encouraging the use of health services, halting violence, or reducing stigma. Behavioural science enables us to diagnose barriers that prevent people from adopting certain behaviours, understand the enablers that help people achieve their goals, and design and measure the impact of interventions.  This is why UNICEF applies #BehaviourScience.

Today, at the National Symposium on Aging and the launch of #HelpAgeTanzania, I presented an abstract titled, "The Forgotten Password: The Unique Contribution of Older People in Our Societies: The productivity, creativity, vitality, and participation of older people in challenging socio-cultural norms and values through social and behaviour change”. The insights were built on the outreach model from #UNICEFTanzania and #HelpAgeTanzania partnership aimed at promoting vaccine equity among the most vulnerable groups: the elderly and people with disablity. Key lessons include the importance of community engagement, onground #socialistening and intergenerational dialogue facilitated by Older People Associations (OPAs). These strategies were crucial in dispelling myths, building trust, managing misinformation and improving attitudes towards vaccination. Similarly, for #Mpox, leveraging community-based networks can enhance public understanding and acceptance of both preventive measures and vaccination efforts. Today, the "Compendium of African Initiatives to Support Parents & Caregivers," was launched by the African Early Childhood Network and partners. It is a detailed resource showcasing diverse, evidence-based parenting programmes across Africa. It highlights the collective efforts from the June 2022 African Regional Convening and emphasizes the need for tailored, culturally sensitive parenting support that spans all child age groups and addresses unique local challenges. The Compendium aims to inspire and guide the scale-up of these initiatives through national policies, advocating for a multi-sectoral approach that includes health, nutrition, and education systems, and to promote the integration of these programmes into government agendas to ensure widespread, sustainable impact. It was a encouraging to see #SBC #UNICEFTanzania #BBCMA supported #FamiliaBoraTaifaImara (page 66) and #SafariYaMalezi (page 76)parenting programmes. 🌍 Empowering Communities Through Collective Action: A Successful Cross Border RCCE Learning Event We are excited to share the outcomes of our recent learning event focused on the importance of risk communication and community engagement (#RCCE) in the regional response to #cholera. The event, which united partners from #Zambia, #Zimbabwe, and #Malawi, was hosted from 12-14 August in partnership with #IFRC,#WHO, and received generous support from the Ministry of Health in Zambia. By gathering experts from various sectors including government, civil society, and international organizations, this initiative aimed to pave the way towards stronger and more empowered communities. 🌟Highlights from the Event: 1. Collective Insights: Diverse perspectives on enhancing community engagement and communication were shared, fostering a robust dialogue among participants. 2. Strengthening Partnerships: The event reinforced our commitment to collaborate with local and international partners, ensuring effective and inclusive communication strategies. 3.
