A visit to Riiga Camp: Empowering IDPs in Puntland On September 24th, the Head of International Cooperation, German Embassy Simon Hagemann and our Portfolio Director, Christian Kuehnl visited the Riiga camp for internally displaced persons in Garowe, Puntland. They were warmly welcomed by the community and beneficiaries of our SEIPP project, supported by Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). SEIPP is making a real difference in the lives of extremely poor IDPs and residents of host communities. Through literacy classes, technical training, cash transfers, and VSLAs, the project is helping people build better futures. We heard inspiring stories from beneficiaries like Mohammed and Ugaas, whose lives have been transformed by SEIPP. Now, they can read, write, manage their finances, and start their own businesses. It's heartwarming to see the positive impact of our work. Together, we're empowering communities and building a brighter future for all. SEIPP is implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and funded by Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). #GIZ #SEIPP #Puntland #IDPs #Empowerment #CommunityDevelopment

🌱 From Struggle to Prosperity: Yarrow Sheikh Abdi’s Agricultural Success Story 🌾 Meet Yarrow Sheikh Abdi, a 57-year-old farmer from Gobweyn Village, Kismayo District. For years, Yarrow and his family of 12 struggled with erratic rainfall and low crop yields and persistent food insecurity. The turning point came with the Promotion of Climate and Drought-resilient Food Security Project #CFSP, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in partnership with the Jubbaland Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation #JMoAI. Yarrow, along with 200 fellow smallholder farmers, received high-quality seeds and comprehensive training in Good Agricultural Practices #GAPs, Integrated Pest Management #IPM, processing, and storage techniques. Thanks to this support, Yarrow transformed his 4-hectare farm into a flourishing source of vegetables - cucumbers, carrots, spinach, and watermelons. The financial benefits have been profound: Yarrow's income has increased significantly, enabling him to better support his family, invest in education for his children, and save for the future. #FoodSecurity "The training and resources have been life-changing," shares Yarrow. "I have seen my income grow, allowing me to provide for my family and plan for a better future." At GIZ-CFSP, we are thrilled to partner with the Jubbaland Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation and in driving agricultural #innovation and #empoweringfarmers like Yarrow, thanks to support from Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). We remain steadfast in our mission to enhance #productivity, support #climateadaptation, and ensure a secure and prosperous #future for communities across Jubaland. 💪 #ClimateResilience #SustainableAgriculture #SmallholderFarmers #EconomicEmpowerment #AgriculturalSuccess #ClimateChangeAdaptation
