Justice Hon Lawrence Mugambi of The High Court (Kenya) today dismissed petitions challenging the 2022 lifting of the ban on genetically modified organisms (GMO). In his ruling, Justice Mugambi noted that the matter was dealt with by the Environment and Land Court (ELC) in 2023. #MakeScienceCount #AfriSD

In our latest podcast, we hosted two amazing young scientists, Fatma Mohamed Omar, a researcher in biotechnology, molecular biology, and bioinformatics who is also a a Research and Teaching Assistant at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) and Daniel Omote, a biotechnology student who is working with International Potato Center (CIP) as a biotech consultant. The discussion, titled Youth and Science: Living the Dream to Transform Africa, centered around the place of youth in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in Africa. We explored what needs to be done to encourage the next generation of scientists, especially at a time when this is greatly necessary for the continent. https://lnkd.in/dFKa3aUP.

I the lead up to #COP16 and #COP-MOP11, my thoughts are on biodiversity conservation with science. The world, especially the scientific world should ensure that facts prevail. We at ISAAA Africenter are doing the best we can.

Our Senior Program Officer Bibiana Iraki is the consummate science communication specialist, a professional par excellence, who is always leading the fight against mis/disinformation in science and, quite honestly, no one works harder to achieve this goal. She leads a vibrant team of communication experts who are foremost scientists and who thrive on directing mis/disinformation where it belongs: to the bins. The biggest weapon against a lie is THE TRUTH, which ISAAA Africenter seeks to make known far and wide. Bibiana Iraki and team will be upping the tempo to kick 🦵 mis/disinformation even harder.
