Congratulations to our Safaricom Women In Tech Velma Ngoni on her award as Technovation Global Ambassador! Keep soaring, keep advancing women #fromtheclassroomtotheboardroom
Our next Global Ambassador Award winner, Velma Ngoni of Kenya, truly embodies the qualities used to select this year's winners from such an exceptional pool of Ambassador applicants. This season she modeled leadership excellence, collaborative work, and program advocacy. She intentionally paired mentors with student teams and conducted regular check-in sessions to support their growth and the success of girls across great geographic distances. Her advocacy efforts also successfully secured a partnership with UN Women where fifteen Technovation Alumnae enrolled in the African Girls Can Code Initiative. Velma writes, "I am deeply humbled and thrilled to celebrate this with my team of volunteers who contribute greatly to the success of the program in Kenya" The caliber of Technovation Girls is due in large part to Ambassadors like Velma. Her willingness to organize sustained support and to brainstorm with neighboring countries like Nigeria and Tanzania is a testament to the passion, dedication, and ingenuity of our growing network of gender-equity champions.

Being a woman and being differently abled should not be a barrier to a Tech Career. We celebrate employers, male colleagues, partnerships and work environments enabling WomenInTech Safaricom PLC UN Women Safaricom Women In Technology Technovation
Being a woman in tech means breaking barriers, shattering stereotypes, and forging new paths in a traditionally male-dominated industry. UN Women and Safaricom Women in Technology have partnered for the third AGCCI cohort, targeting 15 young women, including 13 tech enthusiasts and 2 persons with disabilities. Participants from WIT’s Technovation and One Tech programs underwent intensive training from May 13th to 23rd, including a visit to Safaricom’s offices for real-world tech experience with our engineers. As a woman in tech, you're not just coding or innovating; you're paving the way for future generations, proving that gender or disability is no barrier to success in the digital age. With a 6-month mentorship by Siemens and webinars by Safaricom, these girls are set to lead the ICT sector. Together, we're shaping tomorrow's leaders, one girl at a time. #WomenInTech #TransformingLives #GirlsCanCode

Safaricom Women In Technology reposted this
Principal Cyber Security Engineer | CEH | AWS Solutions Architect | Campus lead - Safaricom Women in Technology | Google WTM Ambassador
Safaricom PLC's Safaricom Women In Technology - Campus Outreach team is a dedicated team of passionate women from across our technology division that is dedicated to upskilling and re-skilling students from across different universities in Kenya. It is no doubt that #AI is here to stay and it is important to train the next generation of talent on in-demand technologies. Over the month of February and March, the team held a campus connect tour for universities in Nairobi county and Kajiado county, covering The Catholic University of Eastern Africa, Africa Nazarene University and Multimedia University of Kenya. The aim of the tour was to impart Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning knowledge to students. During the sessions, we delved into topics such as #datascience #dataengineering #MLOps and #generativeAI. In addition, we discussed the ways in which several tech domains, including cybersecurity and design, leverage artificial intelligence. Many thanks to our speakers and coaches: Kamau Maina, Stephany Wakeanda Nyaribo Maseru Ngesa Marvin Reuben Kihiu Ayub Robert, Benson O. and Mercy Cheruiyot for making this happen. We of course could not forget to hold a #hr session where we covered the recruitment process in the tech industry, soft skills, personal branding and work ethics. A big thank you to Moses Mwasame SFC™ who made sure to always show up and speak to the students. As we concluded our campus connect tour at Multimedia University, where we commemorated International Women's Day, #IWD, we had the honour of having Safaricom's women in leadership join us for a panel discussion and mentoring session for ladies titled 'Raising your hand as a woman in tech'. The session delved into the challenges women in leadership face, how to overcome gender bias, strategies for career advancement, decision making and work-life balance as well as strategies to build inclusive environments. A very big thank you to Solange Karwera, Lilian Nyawira Kiambati, Eneth Kubai and Dianah Ogeto for being part of this empowering session. We were also privileged to be joined by Mark Oyier who talked to the students on 'Finding your niche'. Grateful to our Safaricom Women In Technology leadership led by Donna Phoebe Rege and Dianah Ogeto for supporting us throughout this tour, as well as my fellow campus leads, Beryl Anne Chepkemoi, Charity Nyanchera Meek Jerop Karan Stacy Kendi Sheila Chege Faith Mwanyolo Essy Muthoni Mwangi and Brenda Gaceri for executing this. Not forgetting our brand team Susan Muthoka and Boaz Ogutu. #onestudentatatime
