Equity Group Managing Director and CEO, Dr. James Mwangi participated in a panel discussion at the ongoing German African Business Summit (GABS), where key insights into Africa's evolving financial landscape were shared. Dr. Mwangi emphasized that Africa is at the forefront of reshaping global finance amidst ongoing geopolitical tensions. He noted that Africa is challenging the outdated notion of "African risk," highlighting that each of the continent’s 54 countries has unique risks that, when understood, could unlock new opportunities. He also pointed out that Africa is diversifying its financial sources, which presents a promising future for sectors like SMEs, agriculture, and renewable energy. In addition, he highlighted the significant opportunities for blended finance in Africa, stressing that the Equity Group Foundation plays an essential role in derisking and capacitating sectors without a proven track record. ImpactConnect: Empowering German Mittelstand – Growth in Africa, Strength at Home 📢 Over the past days, I had the privilege of visiting our German midcap clients across South Africa. She also chairs Kenya’s Horticulture Sector Skills Advisory Committee. 👏 Richard Appiah, Business Development Manager at Sommalife, focuses on building strategic partnerships to support women farmers and promote sustainable market access in the shea industry. 👏Claire van Enk, Founder and CEO of Farm to Feed, follows the mission to reduce food loss and CO2 emissions in Kenya by creating markets for surplus and imperfect produce.   🎤 The panel was expertly moderated by Madeleine Schön. Deutsch-Afrikanische Wirtschaftsgipfel (#GABS2024) – in Anwesenheit von Bundeswirtschaftsminister Robert #Habeck! 🌍✨ Die Friedrich-Naumann-Stiftung für die Freiheit ist mit Teams aus Tunesien, Kenia und dem Regionalbüro Südafrika mittendrin. Gemeinsam mit über 800 Start-ups, CEOs und Regierungsvertretern aus Deutschland und zahlreichen afrikanischen Ländern setzen wir den Fokus auf Business-Process-Outsourcing, Rohstofflieferketten und Start-up-Unternehmertum.
