We apply analytics to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals and solve humanitarian and societal challenges
Over ons
Analytics for a Better World Institute is a non-profit collaboration between University of Amsterdam, MIT and ORTEC. Our mission "is to apply analytics to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals” Our target groups: - We work with global known NGOs or institutes and specialized/niche NGOs who have a clear fit with our mission. Thus, NGOs who have the drive, believe, commitment, and willingness to create impact with Analytics on the SDGs. - Partner organizations who join our mission and deliver (in-cash or in-kind) technology, licenses, services, products, funding, or support in any form. - Researchers, volunteers, and students who strongly care about our mission and who want to create an impact with their (in-kind) contribution Our approach: - There’s an abundance of small scale experiments and research projects in the domain of SDGs and Analytics, which don’t find their way to implementation (and impact) - We aim to be the missing link to create this impact. By focusing on building NGO’s analytical capabilities, conducting research and driving impact by implementing analytical software and tooling. - We aim to have a global impact and don’t limit ourselves to specific geographic areas, techniques, topics or SDGs Our activities: ABW|Projects: Helping NGOs to carry-out analytics projects (developing strategy and organizational roadmaps, consulting, analytics software development etc.) ABW|Academy: Inhouse courses or open enrolment Summer and Winterschools on Analytics for NGO employees ABW|Research: Developing new (and applied) analytics models and techniques relevant for societal problems related to the SDGs ABW|Meetups: Seminar series for researchers, employees at NGOs and others within our community on Analytics ABW|Journal: A new scientific journal for impactful papers on analytics related to SDGs ABW|Repository: An open-source database storing applications developed for NGOs, for re-use at other NGOs

Analytics for a Better World heeft dit gerepost
A study by Analytics for a Better World researchers Parvathy Krishnan and Joaquim Gromicho was published in The Lancet. The research, focused on improving equal access to COVID-19 testing in Nepal, found significant benefits of motorised transport. It increases access to testing facilities threefold compared to walking. The researchers also demonstrated how mathematical optimisation could enhance accessibility, particularly in vulnerable and mountainous regions. This work is pivotal for future health planning in resource-constrained settings. Read the full study via the link in the comments.
