  • Otieno Ronald, a peer educator attached to Mulombi HC II in Mutumba sub-county, Namayingo district. For the past four years, he proudly worked with the Heroes for Gender Transformative Action programme. his mission was to contribute towards reduction of teenage pregnancies, advocate for family planning, and ensure that survivors of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) access critical health services through the innovative E-Voucher system. One of the most significant hurdles he faced was bridging the gap between remote communities and health facilities. Long distances and high transport costs often made outreach programs and referrals daunting. This all changed in late 2023 when World Bicycle Relief in partnership with Amref Health Africa in Uganda distributed 300 Buffalo bicycles to Community Health Workers, including Othieno, across Bugiri, Namayingo, and Iganga districts.

  • Amref Health Africa, through the Heroes for Gender Transformative Action program, has partnered with World Bicycle Relief to improve access to healthcare in hard-to-reach communities in Uganda. This collaboration focuses on empowering Village Health Team (VHT) members and community facilitators by providing them with bicycles to enhance their mobility. The partnership enables Community health workers and village health teams to reach remote households more efficiently, ensuring that essential services such as family planning, antenatal care, and responses to sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) are accessible to even the most underserved populations. By bridging the transportation gap, this partnership is transforming healthcare delivery and fostering healthier, more resilient communities in Uganda.
