🌊 Welcome to the North Sea, Weco - the Wave Energy Collective! 🌊 We're excited to see you bring your innovative projects to one of the world's most challenging and rewarding environments. The North Sea offers a unique blend of natural power and historical significance, making it an ideal testing ground for groundbreaking technologies. As you continue to push the boundaries of wave energy, we're also enthusiastic about the possibilities of multi-use of the sea. The North Sea is a hub of activity, from renewable energy production to shipping routes and marine conservation and cultivation. By working together, we can maximize the potential of these waters, ensuring that they remain a resource for both innovation and sustainability. Looking forward to seeing your contributions to the future of the North Sea! 🌍⚓ #NorthSea #Innovation #CampusAtSea #SustainableEnergy #MultiUseSea
🌊 The North Sea: Our own backyard Testing Ground at Weco 🌊 “If it survives here, it will survive everywhere.” At Weco we are happy to have the North Sea as our backyard and testing ground. With a majority of our team being active in watersports like surfing, wingfoling and sailing, we hold a special connection to these waters during and after working hours. The North Sea is one of a kind, with wave patterns not found any where else. What else makes it unique? 🌊 Shallow Seabed: The North Sea is relatively shallow, allowing waves to build up quickly and become steeper. ⚓ Rich History: The North Sea has influenced trade routes for centuries and was a significant battleground during historical conflicts. The seabed of the North Sea is littered with shipwrecks from World War II. These underwater relics serve as historical sites and artificial reefs for marine life. 🐟 Marine Ecosystem: This sea is home to a diverse marine ecosystem, from seals to countless fish species, contributing to biodiversity and playing an important role in ecological studies. 💡 (Renewable) Energy Hub: The North Sea is a pioneer in offshore (renewable) energy. With over 600 oil- and gasplatforms and as of 2024, there are approximately 110 operational wind farms in the North Sea harnessing the strong winds. ⛈ Storm Season: During autumn and winter, storms can generate spectacular waves reaching up to 12 meters near the coast and 20 meters further offshore. The relatively short fetch—the distance over which the wind blows—causes rapidly changing wave patterns, making our wave energy tests both realistic and challenging. 🌍 Shipping routes: The North Sea is one of the world's busiest maritime regions, with millions of vessels navigating through its waters annually, connecting major European ports like Rotterdam, Hamburg, and Antwerp with global trade routes. Thanks to the unique characteristics of the North Sea, we at Weco can continuously innovate and test our wave energy technologies under the harshest conditions. #NorthSea #Waveenergy #Weco #TurningWavesintoWatts
