Netherlands 🤝 Brazil! Yesterday the information session #BusinessinBrazil: #Hydrogen took place in The Hague. The event was a great success with over 80 participants from Brazil and the Netherlands. This - and of course the high-level presence of Ivens Signorini and Gaétan Spielmann Moura from the Brazilian Embassy in The Netherlands and Afke Mulder and Nina Bode from the Embassy and Consulate of the Netherlands in Brazil - shows the potential that both countries see in collaborating with each other to solve global challenges together. Those challenges require international collaboration between companies, research institutes and governments – so it was great to see all those parties from both sides represented at the event! Vieira Rezende Advogados partners Camila Borba Lefèvre and Thiago Luiz Silva shared their energy and business expertise with the participants. Thiago clearly explained the opportunities of the new hydrogen law for foreign parties investing in hydrogen in Brazil. Until 2032 the Brazilian government will invest 3 billion (!) euros (18.3 billion Brazilian Reais) to cover the price difference between low-carbon hydrogen and substitutes like grey hydrogen or coal. Projects with lower emissions will be favored over projects with higher emissions. This new law is a strong statement of the Brazilian government, underlining their belief in the potential of low-carbon hydrogen. For the parties that are exploring the best way to start their business in Brazil, Camila then visually showed the different forms of contracting with Brazilian parties. Without a doubt, there are challenges when starting a business in a foreign country - but this presentation provided a great overview of the different solutions! Before, Corné Hulst (Port of Rotterdam), Diana Bossman, David Koole and Tijmen Steensma showed that Brazil ranks very highly on the Dutch lists of countries to collaborate with. So we hope this event was helpful to those aspiring to work with Brazil as well. We think it was, because a lot of you stayed until 18.30 for the networking drinks to continue the conversation and make new connections. We would once again like to thank all speakers and participants and also Gijs Mulder from ICEP, who unfortunately could not be present, but played a big role in the organization of the event. Please feel free to reach out to any of us with any remaining questions or remarks!
