Today is World Mental Health Day 🌍🗣️🌍 It is well known that the suicide rate among construction workers is notably high compared to many other industries.  Sadly, the suicide rate among UK construction workers has been rising steadily. In 2021, it reached 34 per 100,000 workers, up from 26 per 100,000 in 2015. This rate is nearly four times higher than the national average across all industries. Addressing mental health in the construction sector is essential for reducing this high suicide rate but also to improve the worker’s quality of life. So what are we doing at Red Bear? 🔴🐻 ▶️We have a Company Wellbeing Guide that is available to our employees via our intranet should they need support, containing country-specific mental health contacts and advice. ▶️We have also committed to a dedicated mental health training program for managers and a mental health first aider (level 3) course which will take place shortly and will be provided by Red Umbrella (Workplace Mental Health Training Provider). ▶️We support any employee’s sports/physical activities which can positively contribute to their mental health. ▶️We promote team-building activities so that our employees get downtime and get to interact with each other outside of a work setting. ▶️We encourage open communication between employees and line managers to voice any concerns regarding workload, discrimination or other problems that could impact the employee’s mental health. We also offer a whistleblowing channel in case the employee feels more confident raising any mistreatment anonymously.

We are pleased to say we have already ticked many actions and the rest is on its way. Even better, we have added some projects we haven’t anticipated.
