Strong statement released today in the lead up to #COP16: -- Business actors must restore degraded ecosystems -- Business must ensure #sustainableuse of #biodiversity and reduce all negative environmental impacts #fornature #peacewithnature #ethicalsourcing #biodiversityplan
📣🌱 This is our window to secure a #NaturePositive economy for all by 2030. With less than 100 days until the UN Biodiversity #COP16, we’ve published a business statement outlining five high-level policy recommendations for governments to accelerate the implementation of the #BiodiversityPlan to drive corporate #Nature action. The statement, endorsed by 130 businesses and financial institutions with combined revenues of $1.1 trillion, calls on governments to adopt policies to: 🌎 Make sure business and financial actors protect nature and restore degraded ecosystems 🌎 Ensure sustainable resource use and management to reduce negative environmental impacts 🌎 Value and embed nature in decision-making and disclosure 🌎 Align all financial flows to transition to a nature-positive, net zero and equitable economy 🌎 Adopt or strengthen ambitious global agreements to address key nature loss challenges It’s time for governments to create an enabling regulatory framework and put nature at the heart of decision-making. 🔗 Find out more: bit.ly/BizCOP16

UEBT is proud to announce that it has established an alliance with CONTAR (the National Confederation of Rural Salaried Workers) in Brazil, as part of our activities together with stakeholders in the #Carnauba sector and our role as the Secretariat of the Initiative for Responsible Carnauba (IRC). The partnership, which also includes the IRC, aims to promote respect for #humanrights in the Carnauba sector through trainings of workers, communication campaigns, and progress towards #justremuneration. Gabriel Bezerra, CONTAR’s President shares that "For us at CONTAR, it is an achievement to celebrate a partnership with UEBT and the IRC to promote the human rights of rural salaried workers in the Carnaúba chain. Our objective is to improve working conditions, including wages, promote decent work, and help combat forced labor and child labor throughout the production chain. This partnership will contribute to the strengthening of our workers' union." #ethicalsourcing #workersrights #biodiversity Learn more about the IRC here: https://lnkd.in/gQmCExfx Charlotte Mallet Sandino Silva

Sitting in the back row but paying attention! Lots of discussions and insights at the ISEAL #sustainability symposium. First and last speakers of the day - Santiago Gowland and Richard Howitt - highlighted how essential it is to go beyond the company by company approach on sustainability and aim for collective transformation. Theme of the day is #duediligence. No question of the huge impact of the #CSDDD. Just in numbers: Even if the number of European companies directly affected is limited, these companies involve millions of suppliers around the world. The challenge is to make sure local producers stay and thrive under due diligence system. UEBT moderated exchanges on #humanrights due diligence and approaches to addressing power imbalances. Look forward to taking these conversations and collaboration forward! Catalina Romero Nocua Caroline Omondi Antonia Straden Amandine Bressand Melanie C Grant Rodrigo de Próspero Khaliun P. Jessica P. UEBT is part of the Global Living Wage Coalition that is celebrating a decade of work helping move the idea of #livingwages from niche to norm. This progress can be seen in recent developments like the International Labour Organization (ILO) recent milestone agreement on living wages, which raises hopes for millions of workers around the world that decent wages could become a reality. It can also be seen in the discussions from leading companies across sectors, who are either contemplating or committing to pay living wages to workers in their #supplychains. UEBT supports companies to achieve living wages. We do this by helping companies to understand the gap between the current situation and living wages, and with this information, companies can develop strategies to promote better livelihoods for producers and workers. In the GLWC's recent statement, we as a group pause to consider what it took for this idea to take root and we look to the future, discussing what it will take to bring about the GLWC vision of a world where wages uphold the dignity of labour. And in an upcoming 📢 public dialogue 📢 on June 18, UEBT's own Georgina Villarreal, PhD will be speaking with other experts within the GLWC on the transformative potential in the pursuit of living wages worldwide. ➡ Read the full statement and register for the dialogue - https://lnkd.in/eqcut4HG Fairtrade International Rainforest Alliance ISEAL Bonsucro Anker Research Institute Fair Labor Association Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) Social Accountability International #livingincome #decentwork #sustainablelivelihoods
