📹: Drone Addicts

  • 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗱! 🚢 Offshore installation vessel Boreas successfully arrived in the Netherlands after a smooth and safe journey from China, covering almost 14,700 nautical miles. To reach its destination, the gigantic vessel had to navigate through world's largest sea lock in IJmuiden, which was an impressive sight. The Boreas is currently docked in the Port of Amsterdam, where the vessel will undergo its final completion and commissioning phase. Simultaneously, it will be outfitted with wind turbine foundation deck equipment and installation tools in preparation for its first assignment. In June, the vessel will be christened in Rotterdam. The Boreas, named after the Greek god of the Northern winds, is purpose-built for the transport and installation of the next generation of foundations and turbines at offshore wind farms and the largest of its kind. Furthermore, the vessel is the first of its kind with the ability to operate on the future fuel methanol, reducing the ship’s footprint by more than 78%. ✅ Read more in this news release: https://lnkd.in/ehxKWz8f #VanOord #MarineIngenuity #energytransition #offshoreinstallationvessel #wecreate

  • 𝗔 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗵𝗮𝗯𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 🌱 A few years ago, we modernised the Świnoujście-Szczecin fairway in Poland, deepening the waterway to enhance navigation. But beyond improving access to the Port of Szczecin, this project also created a new habitat for nature. The material that had been dredged from the fairway has been used to create two artificial islands in the Szczecin lagoon. One of the artificial islands is gradually developing into a diverse ecosystem, proving that developing maritime infrastructure and ecological development can go hand in hand. Free from human disturbance, the island has become a safe retreat for birds and plants. The created island has become a sanctuary for ground-nesting birds that prefer open spaces with young vegetation. Even during the construction, the sandy areas of the island were quickly populated by dozens of little ringed plover nests. Artificial nesting habitats installed for shelducks have also attracted significant interest from the species. The island is frequently visited by white-tailed eagles, highlighting its appeal to rare bird species. 🦆 Additionally, the island has become an important stopover for migratory birds, as confirmed by ornithologists’ observations. Birds pause here to rest and feed before continuing their journey, and sometimes, they decide to stay—like the avocets. In 2024, the island saw the first recorded nesting of the Caspian tern in Poland. 🐣 ‘Our commitment to making a positive impact on the world is deeply rooted in Van Oord’s core purpose and values. By leveraging Marine ingenuity and building with nature, we enhance biodiversity while developing marine infrastructure. It is great to now see the positive impact of our efforts’, says Michael Rogas, Van Oord’s Stakeholder Manager during project execution. We are proud to announce that our newest uncrewed survey vessel (USV), the VO:X Barentsz, is the first uncrewed seagoing vessel to fly the Dutch flag. This significant achievement will drive further development in the field. A vessel is allowed to fly the flag of a country once that country issues a certificate of registry. This connection between the vessel and the flag state forms the basis of the applicable maritime law on board the vessel. This milestone is an significant acknowledgement of unmanned vessels and indicates that the industry, together with the Ministerie van Infrastructuur en Waterstaat, is developing the required regulations for these vessels. ✅ The VO:X Barentsz is Van Oord’s fifth USV and the first one specialised for operations at sea. This 7-metre vessel is designed for challenging offshore conditions and supports our dredging, offshore wind and maritime infrastructure projects. Unmanned survey vessels enable Van Oord to collect more data for our clients at lower emissions. Additionally, deploying these vessels increases safety by eliminating the need for an onboard operator and surveyor. With this advanced and special technology, we can help our clients achieve refined results and set new standards for sustainable and safe operations. 🦺 #VanOord #marineingenuity #surveyvessel #VOXBarentsz

Implemented by Van Oord Ocean Health, these innovative methods aim to naturally enhance biodiversity in the North Sea. Tree Reefs are circular, biodegradable reef structures made from discarded fruit trees, which are relatively sturdy and stable. A large North Sea Tree Reef is expected to create habitats for even more benthic and fish species, enhancing local biodiversity. 🐠 Van Oord and Ecowende will also collaborate on constructing Oyster Hubs at the wind farm, in collaboration with Waardenburg Ecology. The hubs consist of adult oysters of varying sizes placed on designated cable crossings to serve as a source of oyster larvae. The wind farm will function as a connection site, stimulating larval distribution to otherwise isolated locations and facilitating the colonisation of new areas. We are planning to install the Tree Reefs on four cable crossings in the Ecowende wind farm in 2026. The Oyster Hubs will be installed in 2026 or 2027. 👌 Want to know more about these developments? We are committed to reduce emissions and becoming net-zero, leading to a better, more sustainable world for future generations. To realise this, we are assessing our existing fleet and determining the right modifications for optimising energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The installation of the SCR systems is an excellent example of this strategy. SCR is an advanced emissions control technology. It contains a catalytic converter behind the engine which reduces nitrogen (NOx) emissions to an absolute minimum. ✅ Damen Shipyards Group was contracted to install the SCR system, based on their familiarity with the Nexus.
