This is how Mobilis automates the energy transition with digital innovation!   In November, Mobilis TBI and VIKTOR teamed up for a hackathon, challenging teams to develop digital solutions that accelerate the energy transition. Participants from Mobilis and Voorbij Funderingstechniek (TBI Infra) teamed up to build 3 innovative apps designed to optimize workflows.   In this article, we delve deeper into the details of the winning application: the High Voltage Station app, used to automate the design of #Mobriq components (used in, for example, the 380kV high-voltage station for TenneT Netherlands). Three advantages of using Python with STAAD.Pro or SAP2000: 1. You can reuse and combine parametric components. 2. You can set up and analyze the model through their API. 3. You can use an external framework to post-process the results. In this app, I reuse the parametric baseplate component from my last post to create a CHS splice connection. Then, I define the cross-section, load cases, constraints, and supports using OpenSTAAD, run the analysis, and store the results in a JSON file. Finally, the results are sent back to my VIKTOR.AI app, where I can better visualize and navigate the model (STAAD is great, but rotating a 3D model at weird angles is a pain). Everything is wrapped from preprocessing to post-processing in a nice, shareable web app that I can easily send to my colleagues, clients, or team! STAAD lacks contact elements, and you can’t retrieve strains for plastic analysis from shells, so its scope is mostly limited to allowable stress design and simple elastic analysis. However, with some old-school FEA tricks, you can approximate contact modeling between plates and add proper MP constraints. But the main takeaway here is that if you can automate a model like this, you can probably automate your daily/repetitive design work and eliminate boring tasks using Python. #STAADPro #OpenSTAAD #Python #StructuralEngineering #ParametricDesign

We are thrilled to introduce our first public web app: "Reinforced Concrete Cross-Sections" 🚀 Built on top of the powerful StructuralCodes Python package by fib – International Federation for Structural Concrete – Fédération Internationale du Béton, this app is designed to make StructuralCodes more accessible to a wider audience. It allows users to explore the capabilities of StructuralCodes, with an initial focus on analyzing cross-sections subjected to bending and normal force.
