As Center of Innovation (COI) Chemist for Sensor Technology, you will work on the innovation projects fueled by our ambitious digitalization and sustainability agenda. Under the guidance of the supervisor, you will focus on experiments for sensor development in support of chemical process applications and staying ahead in the industry 4.0 market trends. What will you do?


  • Execute multi-disciplinary experimentation projects that result in the development, application and understanding of Quaker Houghton’s novel sensor technology.
  • Acquire detailed knowledge of customer processes to enable the continued development of value-added technology. Keep up to date on new trends in the field.
  • Understanding sensor output signals and interpreting them in a way that makes them compatible with Artificial Intelligence methods.
  • Support in the development of algorithms and the analysis of big data set to control and optimize customer applications.
  • Participate in ensuring good management of the laboratory space and equipment.
  • Ensure that all equipment and machines in your area of control are managed with regards to safety, maintenance, calibration, and availability.

What are we looking for?


Experience: A relevant internship or working experience in a similar role, ideally within the chemical sector. All necessary product training is provided upon onboarding by our senior Research Scientists team.

Additionally, experience or proven interest in the following technical skills will be valued, as they contribute to the successful execution of the role, enabling the specialist to effectively understand chemical variations, analyze data, and utilize sensor technology for visualizing the results:


  • Experience with Multivariate Calibration techniques which are used to establish relationships between multiple variables and predict outcomes in chemical analysis.
  • Experience in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence (AI) methodologies, enabling the development of advanced models for data analysis, pattern recognition, and predictive modeling.
  • Coding skills (preferably Python) and/or familiarity with micro-computing platforms, allowing for the implementation of algorithms and the development of software tools to support data processing and visualization in a chemical analysis context.


Education: Academic or Bachelor degree in chemistry. Analytical chemistry and/or, physical chemistry background is highly valued.


Language skills: Good verbal and written communication level in English is a must.

Location: Reasonable commuting distance to Uithoorn, the Netherlands.
