What you will be doing as an Innovation Scientist Chemical Engineering :


In this position, you will be responsible for driving the Chemical Engineering aspect of innovation projects for dosing, dispensing, and dilution, from concept through verification and validation and on to implementation. This includes design, development, testing/verification, and technical report writing. You have the ability to project manage external resources as required. Ensuring that all documentation is to Diversey standards prior to instigating work with suppliers and all development work is fully documented within the quality system.


The successful candidate will be a highly motivated, curious individual capable of working with a wide variety of technical challenges. They will collaborate within the team to identify and explore innovative solutions to address specific customer needs in the cleaning and hygiene industry. This role will involve exploring a variety of innovation areas, including sustainable solutions, and working with both internal and external technologies. Collaboration will occur within a team comprised of Innovation engineers, packaging engineers, and development engineers, and will involve collaboration with scientists and chemists. The incumbent must have a passion for innovation and a curiosity to explore solutions.


The Principal Duties :

  • Interpret customer problem statements provided by strategic marketing and provide creative and imaginative solutions for these.
  • Work on global innovations both internally invented and utilizing external technologies.
  • Collaborate with Innovation Engineers, Development Engineers and Chemists on the design and development of systems.
  • Work with Open Innovation Lead to explore external technology opportunities.
  • Work within the innovation team to participate in ongoing brainstorming and ideation sessions.
  • Establishes and develops contacts with relevant third-party technology/science partners.
  • Work with strategic marketing to test acceptability and feasibility of solutions.
  • Build a network with relevant company stakeholders to receive required inputs to develop.
  • Provide input to potential external solutions for both open innovation and M&A to pursue.
  • Competitive intelligence - staying abreast of the competitive landscape.
  • Effectively applies knowledge of business, materials, and processes to project assignments.
  • Accurate and detailed report writing and an ability to provide innovative solutions to issues that may arise.


Basic Qualifications `:

  • Master’s degree in chemical engineering, Physics, Applied Chemical Science / Physics, or similar.
  • 5+ years’ experience with the innovation field.
  • Experience with (bio)chemical process engineering, instrumentation, and control.
  • Understanding of mathematics and computational modeling, data analysis and statistical methods.
  • Experience with material and polymer science and sensing technologies.
  • Creative and innovative - Understanding and application of experimental design, creative problem-solving techniques, and research statistics.
  • Hands on mentality and action orientated - Should be able to follow up on feedback to ensure positive outcomes.
  • Attention to detail - Should be able to complete accurate data entry and develop accurate written materials.
  • Familiarity with software tools such as Word, Excel, Power Point, and MiniTab.
  • Professional communication skills – Should be able to communicate with peers, customers, and vendors both via verbal and written communication.
  • Technical Communication Skills - Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts, findings & recommendations to senior leadership.


Additional Qualifications :

  • Understanding of electronics and software design and development.
  • Understanding of surfactant technologies and colloidal systems technologies.
  • Knowledge and understanding of regulatory requirements surrounding cleaning and disinfecting products.
  • Ability to think and act strategically.
  • Ability to work cross functionally with teams to balance solutions in accordance with budget, schedule, and tools.
  • Experience with DFSS methodologies
