Below the sea surface, several thousand kilometres of vital cables and other critical underwater infrastructure connect the world. This infrastructure is vulnerable and needs careful monitoring. The ability to rapidly detect anomalies close to one's critical underwater infrastructure is an important capability within several warfare and security operations for many nations. KONGSBERG has had a strong presence, with Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace, Kongsberg Geospatial and Kongsberg Discovery. At #REPMUS2024, the KONGSBERG DISCOVERY HUGIN AUV has contributed to the development of change detection technology to support these objectives. Together with the Royal Norwegian Navy and Forsvarets forskningsinstitutt - FFI Defence Research Establishment (FFI), the HUGIN AUV has demonstrated novel change detection technology in a realistic and multi-national setting during REPMUS. REPMUS is an acronym for Robotic Experimentation and Prototyping with Maritime Unmanned Systems. It is an international multidomain exercise focused on testing the capabilities and interoperability of new-generation Maritime Unmanned Systems in naval warfare. REPMUS is an important arena to showcase the newest technology and capabilities. In Portugal, around 30 nations, over 130 research and development companies, various universities, as well as EU and NATO entities associated with maritime operations and/or maritime unmanned systems are participating in the exercise. https://lnkd.in/dRspNCJX #WeAreNATO #REPMUS24 #MaritimeUnmannedSystems #Innovationtechnologies #InnovationNATO #ArtificialIntelligence #strongertogether

Exciting days here at the United Nations General Assembly High-level Week 2024 in New York 🌍 The 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly marks a crucial milestone in the global effort to accelerate progress towards the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). KONGSBERG is represented by President Martin Wien Fjell in Kongsberg Discovery, Group Executive Vice President Public Affairs Even Aas and Sales Director Tonny Algrøy. Using technology on the seabed and in space, we develop solutions for mapping the current situation and monitoring changes above and below water. This is a significant contribution to knowing what measures are needed to solve the climate, energy, food, and geopolitical crises. Sustainable management of the oceans requires knowledge and data on the health of the oceans while monitoring critical infrastructure above and below water is an important prerequisite for sustainable development. Kongsberg Discovery is a world leader in advanced robotics and sensor technology for mapping, monitoring and understanding ocean space. Therefore, preserving a sustainable ocean space, mapping the current situation and monitoring changes is crucial for Norway and the world. #technology #UNGA #sustainability #ProtectingPeopleandPlanet

🚀Kongsberg Discovery is excited to announce another successful milestone reached in the development of HUGIN Endurance following a record setting multi-week fully autonomous mission. After receiving a final navigation update from a pre-deployed transponder 10 hours into the dive, the 8-ton, 40 ft, Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) operated completely independent of all human interaction and with no external navigation aiding for the duration of the sortie. This mission was conducted at depths ranging from 50m to 3400m and met the advertised 1,200 nautical mile range. Most impressive of all, was that HUGIN Endurance returned with a position error of approximately 0.02% of the total distance traveled! “The success of this mission proves HUGIN Endurance’s shore-to-shore operational capability. Removing the need for a surface ship provides a huge savings to our customers, in both time and resources. We are proud of our exceptional team has been working very hard to add this capability to our AUV portfolio.” said Espen Henriksen, Executive Vice President Uncrewed Platforms Division. Drones, surveillance, cyberattacks, and sabotage threaten our critical infrastructure. Product Line Manager Cato Giil Eliassen in Kongsberg Discovery introduces a new drone detector. – Our technology makes it possible to detect something in the air and determine whether it's a drone, a bird, or an object. It also detects objects in motion on the ground and the water's surface, such as the autonomous boat, says Eliassen. This includes our energy and water supply, transportation, finance, telecommunications, and healthcare.
