REACH REMOTE 1, a remote-controlled vessel designed and equipped by our business area Kongsberg Maritime, named ‘Ship of the Year 2024’. Reach Subsea’s ground-breaking uncrewed surface vessel, REACH REMOTE 1, has today received the Skipsrevyen Ship of the Year 2024 award at the SMM exhibition in Hamburg. The 24-metre REACH REMOTE 1 is the first of a pair of uncrewed offshore surface vessels designed and delivered by our business area Kongsberg Maritime to Norwegian company REACH SUBSEA ASA. Crammed with state-of-the-art KONGSBERG technology, the vessels will initially carry out underwater survey duties off the coast of Haugesund in southern Norway, and with global interest in this disruptive approach to traditional duties, many more are set to follow. We are ready to do our part to contribute and deliver on the promises outlined in the Norwegian Long-term Defence Plan 🇳🇴 In April, the Norwegian Stortinget conducted a parliamentary hearing for the most important political document for Norwegian defence capabilities that has been put forward in many decades. We support the direction of the long-term plan, and would like to repeat our two additional points: Long-term framework contracts are vital for ensuring sufficient production capacity in today’s climate and to have national preparedness for future needs for rapid scaling up of deliveries. The production capacity and ability for rapid expansion in the defence industry are crucial for Norway's defence capability, maintenance, and overall preparedness. It's urgent to begin with new standardized vessels. KONGSBERG, as both a defence industry actor and is a central part of the Norwegian maritime cluster, finds it encouraging for both the Norwegian Navy and industry that the government proposes commencing the construction of standardized vessels. Norway has a robust maritime cluster, renowned globally for its capabilities in building, outfitting, and servicing vessels crucial for Norway and NATO. We want to emphasize the importance of ship construction within Norway, aiming for maximum Norwegian contribution. KONGSBERG stands ready to lead in delivering standardized vessels. Increased national competence in military shipbuilding will enhance preparedness, supply security, and competitiveness within the defence industry. The Norwegian maritime sector constitutes a value chain spanning research and design to operation and maintenance. Collaborative efforts among diverse stakeholders are vital for fostering innovative solutions. The transition towards greener fuel solutions holds particular significance. It's worth noting that the Norwegian naval vessels constitute the primary contributor to greenhouse gas emissions within the Armed Forces. Navier USN Autonomous Ship World Champions! The Njord Challenge 2024 took place at Havet Arena in Trondheim, gathering seven teams and their Autonomous Surface Vehicles for an international competition. Navier USN from Universitetet i Sørøst-Norge emerged as this year’s champions, securing the title of World Champions in Autonomous Ships. After two weeks of intense focus—refining systems, coding, and teamwork—Navier USN celebrated their hard-earned victory. The team transitioned from a catamaran to a trimaran, implementing new software, hardware, organizational improvements, and a refined social media strategy. They are the best in the country. But compete in sports with very little money. Yet, the Norwegian athletes manage to compete at the top level. One hundred thirty athletes in ten sports have participated in Summit2024, an initiative aimed at the Paris Olympics. Summit2024 is called a national effort for summer sports. These are the ten sports included in the project. They receive support from companies and private individuals, and the money is distributed among the various sports in a shared pool.
