Avoid This Common Surface Evaluation Error! One of the most common mistakes when working with Evaluate Surface in Grasshopper is how we handle the input points. This component, as the name suggests, evaluates a surface's local properties at a specific point, giving us valuable outputs like a new point, a normal vector, or even a new plane. But to get these outputs correctly, there are a few important things to remember. 💡 Tip #1: The input point is not described by Cartesian coordinates (X, Y, Z) as you might expect. Instead, it uses UV coordinates, which refer to points on the surface based on a two-dimensional system. U and V represent the horizontal and vertical dimensions within the surface's domain. This is key to getting the right results! 💡 Tip #2: In most cases, you’ll want to reparametrize your surface. Reparametrizing means adjusting the surface's UV domain to a standard range of 0 to 1. This simplifies the process and makes it easier to work with more complex surfaces. 🔑 Pro Tip: Remember, with simple surfaces (those without complex curves), the UV point (0.5, 0.5) is usually located at the center of the surface. This isn’t the case with more complex geometries, so reparametrization can save you from a lot of potential errors. Have you encountered this before? Got any other common errors you’ve run into? #ParametricDesign #ComputationalDesign

Less clutter, more efficiency! There are hundreds of Grasshopper components, making it hard for beginners to remember them all. Should we limit the number? Andy Payne introduced a smart solution in Rhino 8—a pass-through component that combines constructing and deconstructing into one. Could this approach work for other components? What do you think? Share your thoughts! #parametricdesign #computationaldesign #rhino #grasshopper
