We’re setting sail! The first Odfjell vessel is all set with four 22-meter-high suction sails 🌊 It’s all in the details, and the final installation stage was completed in just two days. The pioneering endeavor has been a smoothly orchestrated cooperation between our technology team and the crew, sail developer bound4blue, and the EDR Antwerp Shipyard. Now, Bow Olympus will be navigated toward the wind to explore the real-time benefits of wind-assisted propulsion technology. At the end of this week, the 49k chemical tanker will embark on what could be called her second maiden voyage, this time crossing the Atlantic with sails. "Each nautical mile will be thoroughly analyzed in real-time to document the energy-saving effects. We are eager to see that our calculations are confirmed," says VP Technology Erik Hjortland. "The learnings from Bow Olympus will catalyze further decisions as we continue to improve the environmental performance of our current vessels—while also preparing for the next generation of chemical tankers that will be with us till 2050 and beyond." Many thanks to Captain Glenn Skjelbred and his crew, our technology team, our partners at bound4blue and EDR shipyard, integrator and engineering partner Royal Roos BV, and agent Euro Nordic Logistics for a seamless operation. "Change takes time. Progress is underway, but we still have a way to go. We must continue to work together in the maritime industry to break glass ceilings. Diverse teams are a clear criterion for success," VP Fleet Management Knut Erik Fredriksen said at the maritime cluster’s International Women’s Day gathering in Bergen. We kicked off the weekend and our Women's Day celebration together with WISTA Norway, YoungShip Bergen, Bergens Rederiforening (Bergen Shipowners' Association), Wilson ASA, Gearbulk, and Grieg Maritime Group, and welcomed shipping colleagues from 37 companies to a half-day seminar focusing on diversity, inclusion, and equality. Throughout the discussions, one message was repeated: To stay strong, innovative and competitive in the years to come, we need a range of voices shaping the industry. So how do we get more talents to step aboard? Junior Ship Operator and Youngship board member Andrea Våge Aasen shared her perspectives on how to recruit and retain Generation Z: "Our generation has a high work ethic. We want to develop and be good at our job. It’s great to get feedback from leaders to know what we’re doing well and where we can improve. And the social aspect also matters, creating arenas where we can get to know our colleagues. This improves communication and makes it easier to work together to achieve results." A big thank you to our co-hosts, speakers, and participants for an inspiring meet-up 👏 #AccelerateAction | #IWD2025 | #InternationalWomensDay l 📷: Elise Undheim Eide

"It’s important to bring more women into the industry. The feedback I’ve received from those I’ve spoken with, and from those working on ships, is that the culture and work environment on board have improved since more women joined the crews." Marine Superintendent Trainee Emilie B. Stang talks to Kystens Næringsliv about what it’s like to be a woman in a profession that has long been heavily male-dominated. "More and more women are being hired, and more are applying for positions. We are here to stay." Norwegian maritime organizations and government sign declaration for gender equality: "When strong forces challenge equality, diversity, and inclusion globally, we will continue to lead the way and stand up for our principles," said President of the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association, our CEO Harald Fotland. The declaration commits to measures for better recruitment, a safer working environment, and a more inclusive workplace for all. It unites the broad maritime community in Norway and was signed by the Norwegian government in company with all the major maritime organizations 🙌 "It is very positive that we are formalizing collaboration with the authorities. We are now committing to monitoring and reporting on developments annually so that we can work even more purposefully than today," Harald added. "The maritime industry has a great need for people, and if we are to succeed, we must recruit from the entire population." 📷: Harald Fotland, Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Policy Marianne Sivertsen Næss, and CEO Knut Arild Hareide of the Norwegian Shipowners' Association (Norges Rederiforbund). 🤝 Norwegian Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries | Norwegian Maritime Authority | Norwegian Seafarers' Union | Norsk Sjøoffisersforbund | NHO SJØFART | Det norske maskinistforbund | Maritimt Forum | Norsk Skipsmeglerforbund | WISTA Norway | The Federation of Norwegian Industries

Milestone contract signed: Odfjell Terminals Korea (OTK) and S-OIL have sealed a ten-year storage deal that lays the foundation for a strong strategic partnership in the years to come 🙌 The project involves the development of a new tank pit with ten state-of-the-art carbon steel storage tanks. Upon completion, the expansion will increase OTK’s total storage capacity by 28%, surpassing 400,000 cubic meters. Three of the tanks will be dedicated to S-OIL's crude-to-chemical facility under construction near OTK, the groundbreaking Shaheen project. "The long-term agreement underscores the growing collaboration between OTK and S-OIL and sets the stage for additional business opportunities in the Ulsan region, driven by new production capacity and trade flows linked to the Shaheen project," says Adrian Lenning, Managing Director of Odfjell Terminals.
