As the temperature gets cooler, we have seen a spike in house fires with 16 large claims over the past two months. A couple of weeks ago our Chief Operating Officer Simon Hobbs travelled down to Marton to do a fire education story with 1 News and Fire and Emergency NZ. The story was a unique opportunity to educate Kiwis in how to better keep their homes safe this winter season. Check out the full story below: https://lnkd.in/gUh7D9in

AA Insurance's majority shareholder, Suncorp New Zealand, has reported its results for the 2024 financial year: https://lnkd.in/gsTx4--K Over the past 12 months, we are proud to have helped our customers protect the things that matter to them. We’re delighted to be in the top quartile globally for employee engagement, to be recognised as ANZIIF’s Claims Team of the Year and be New Zealand’s first general insurer to take the Pride Pledge. We have helped grow local resilience through our partnership with the Student Volunteer Army and supported Kiwi kids through our partnerships with Variety – the children’s charity and our very own Big Little Sponsorship. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to these achievements. We’re looking forward to building on these in the year ahead!

🎉 We’re celebrating a sporting hero of our very own this month! 🏋♀️ Customer service specialist Kirsty Walker competes internationally at Masters’ Olympic Weightlifting AND has held New Zealand records and World Records in her age and weight category. 🏃♀️ “Growing up, I was very sports orientated. Staying fit got a bit harder when I started working in an office environment. 💪  To boost my fitness I joined a gym, started Cross Fit and got hooked on Olympic Weightlifting. It’s a real passion for me.   🥇 I went to my first World Masters’ Games in 2017. Since then, I’ve competed in Australia, China, Indonesia, Canada and the United States. I took out the World Champion title last year in Poland. 🏆 I’m currently training five days a week ahead of September’s Masters’ Weightlifting IMWA World Championships in Finland. Work has always found ways to support my sports commitments. Having that backing is such a boost ahead of defending my title.” Kirsty, we’re so proud of you! Best wishes from all of us ahead of the World Championships!

Bevan Aplin’s a Building Repair Specialist and volunteer firefighter with the Silverdale Brigade. He shares how our support is helping his crew prepare for emergency situations. “Helping people is a big part of my life at AA Insurance. I’ve always wanted to build on this by serving my community and working as a volunteer firefighter is a dream come true for me.” Bevan says training is everything when responding to emergencies. “The first 60 minutes are vital following a serious crash. As a crew, we need to practice every situation, including car crash extractions.” Volunteer firefighters respond to over 70% of all road incidents. Accessing damaged vehicles for emergency training can be challenging for these brigades, who normally fundraise or ask for crew contributions to buy wrecks. “We were stoked when AA Insurance and Turners teamed up to donate three damaged vehicles for our crew to use in training. Eight volunteers successfully completed their ‘jaws of life’ qualifications thanks to training on the damaged vehicles.”
