Strengthening cybersecurity and resilience, the latest trends in digital equity, and the future of AI are some of the hot topics at the Tech Users Summit in Auckland today. Very much aligned with the mahi we continue to support and advocate for at InternetNZ, some of our Community Engagement and Public Policy Team are thrilled to be part of today's wānanga.

We are the home of .nz, and we work for an Internet that benefits all of Aotearoa.
About us
InternetNZ | Ipurangi Aotearoa operates the .nz domain space. We ensure all domain names ending with .nz are available for people and businesses in Aotearoa to function and thrive online. We're a not-for-profit organisation, and the money we receive from .nz domain names goes back into the community. We provide grants, help to fund other organisations, and advocate for an accessible and safe Internet that benefits everyone in Aotearoa. We are a member organisation too. You can join us as a member to be in the know, have a say in our direction, stand for Council, vote in elections, or simply because you believe in our cause.

Mission accomplished for #APNIC58 The conference did exactly what it set out to do: "bring together Internet and networking expert government representatives, industry leaders, and other interested parties from around the world to learn, share ideas and experience, network with peers, and develop policies related to Internet operations." 🙏 We’ve had the pleasure of being the conference’s local host and are proud of all our staff and the mahi they put into this event. Thank you to all of the staff at Tākina events and to the incredible APNIC team — I roto i ngā mihi whakamānawa a Ipurangi Aoteroa ki a koutou, e tau ana.

🙌 Great to have you, Dot Kiwi Ltd
We had a great day yesterday at InternetNZ | Ipurangi Aotearoa Registrar Summit as part of APNIC 58. Our MD Andy Ellis was on a panel facilitated by Tim Johnson, GM of Customer and Product at InternetNZ. Along with Bruce Tonkin COO of auDA, Lee Miller CPO at Voyager Internet Ltd and Barb Pearse LLB, MinstD the Domain Name Comissioner. In their discussion about the future of the domain name industry in the AI era, one key takeaway stood out: many new businesses often rely heavily on platforms like Facebook or Instagram in place of a dedicated website. While this may seem convenient, it comes with significant risks. Since you don't control the platform, your page could be frozen or shut down without warning, leaving you disconnected from your customers. In contrast, setting up a website is both affordable and straightforward, giving you complete control over your data, brand, and customer interactions. If you are thinking about building a website the first step is to check if your business name is available as a domain. Check now at www.hello.kiwi

Great to see you, Lee Miller!
Had a great day joining InternetNZ | Ipurangi Aotearoa for the .nz Domain Registrars Summit in Wellington yesterday. I was fortunate to be part of a panel discussing the impact of AI on the domain name industry, and it was a fantastic opportunity to connect with others in the industry. Also enjoyed catching the opening keynote speeches for APNIC 58 and learning about all the good work being done to ensure a global, open, stable, and secure Internet for everyone. Thanks to the organisers and everyone who attended for making it such a productive and insightful event. Looking forward to continuing these conversations into the future! #DomainNames #AI #InternetNZ #Networking #DotNZ #APNIC58 Voyager Internet Ltd

It’s been a busy day full of mahi for InternetNZ and Domain Name Commission at Tākina in Te Whanganui-a-Tara. At the .nz Registrar Summit, we shared information and hosted valuable kōrero, giving attendees an event full of engaging presentations. On the other side of the venue, our Tumu Whakarae Vivien Maidaborn MNZM spoke at the Opening Ceremony and Keynotes session of #APNIC58. In her welcoming remarks, Vivien highlighted the importance of the global, interoperable Internet, and our collective commitment to secure it. APNIC’s incoming Director-General Jia Rong Low also spoke at the packed ceremony. We were also very lucky to have Mt Cook School students perform waiata and haka. It’s great to be here and to be the local host for this important event. A huge thank you to the incredible APNIC and Tākina Events staff!

That’s a wrap for the 2024 Pacific Internet Governance Forum. It’s been our pleasure to be the local host of this event, as part of #APNIC58. Fittingly, the last session, hosted by UNESCO was called Empowering Islands: Strengthening Internet Governance in the Pacific. Our Tumu Whakarae Vivien Maidaborn MNZM had this to say about how important it is for the Pacific nations to get together: 🎤 “Pacific IGF is a rare moment for Pacific nations to talk about their issues and their connection to each other.” And of course, we were back at the APNIC 58 KIA ORA! wall, this time with Vivien our Tumu Whanake | GM Customer and Product, Tim Johnson. Looking forward to the Registrar Summit tomorrow!
