💼 "First and foremost, you have to maintain your integrity." - Paul Gillard In our latest monthly newsletter, Juno Counsel, we celebrate Paul G. and his four decades in the in-house legal profession. From the early days when in-house lawyers were often undervalued to guiding some of New Zealand’s key corporate changes, Paul’s career is marked by integrity and leadership. Reflecting on his journey, Paul shares: "You have to stand up for what you believe is right. If you don’t, you’re history." His work at Telecom New Zealand and Fletcher Forests helped raise the standard for in-house legal teams across the profession. We really enjoyed the opportunity to chat with Paul about his contribution to the in-house legal profession and thank him for sharing his experiences with us - ānei ā mātou mihi ki a koe! 👉 Read more about Paul’s career and reflections: https://hubs.ly/Q02PpPKh0 📬 For more insights and stories celebrating the in-house legal community, subscribe to our monthly newsletter here.https://hubs.ly/Q02PqgGk0 #LegalCommunity #InHouseLegal #JunoLegal #CareerSpotlight

Last week’s Juno Learning: Building Influence event in Ōtautahi Christchurch gave us plenty to think about, with some excellent takeaways on listening, trust, and influence in the in-house legal space. Ā mātou mihi ki a Richard McGill, rātou ko Alexia (Ali) Khan, ko Sam Jack, ko Jacki Houtwipper, for generously sharing their experiences and helping us get off the dancefloor and up to the balcony, to take a broader view on what it means to be trusted advisors. The discussion really highlighted the importance of stepping onto the bridge, or at least building relationships with those on the bridge, to be across strategy and influence decisions and opportunities, rather than just react from the engine room. To Christchurch City Council for hosting us at the beautiful Tūranga, and to all our guests for your energy and engagement - kei te mihi! If you missed out, don’t worry. We have more events in this series for Heads of Legal coming up in Wellington, 13.9.24, and Auckland, 20.9.24. Contact hello@junolegal.com for an invite. Happy Juno-anniversary to Sarah Graydon 🎉 This month, we get to celebrate Sarah's 7 YEARS on the Juno team! Given Juno's only 7.5 years old, that makes her one of the OGs 👑 Sarah’s clients at Juno, including Greater Wellington Regional Council, Z Energy, and the Real Estate Authority, praise her for her adaptability and “effective legal advice on a diverse range of commercial and local government issues" and being “intuitive and knowledgeable." We're grateful for her many contributions to the team too, including her role on Juno's revolving Sounding Board. Sarah balances her Juno work with her governance responsibilities, including director roles at Guardian Trust New Zealand Ltd, UniSaver Limited and PSS Trustees Limited. She's also a reliable volunteer for the local school sausage sizzles (despite not eating sausages) and supports ActionStation through Juno’s Giving Back programme. Feedback from her Taumata Arowai engagement sums Sarah up nicely: "Sarah is highly capable and has a great sense of humour to boot." Tautoko! A very happy 7 Juno years to you, Sarah! 🎉 Read more here:https://hubs.ly/Q02MZJTp0
