Balancing care responsibilities with career opportunities continues to be a challenge for Filipino working women. IW-supported research on the role of women in Philippine workspaces showed that 74% of C-suite respondents believe that women are more likely than men to be held back by care responsibilities in pursuing promotion opportunities. These findings remain present in PBCWE (Philippine Business Coalition for Women Empowerment)'s recent Census on Women in Executive Leadership Teams, which identified care work as a factor that impacts women’s career mobility. CEO respondents shared instances of women employees declining promotions due to concerns the twin demands of career and care roles could significantly impact their mental and physical health. On International Day of Care and Support and on all days, we call on companies to strengthen workplace policies such as parental leave and flexible work arrangements that enable all their employees to equally take on care responsibilities in their homes.
