The British Embassy Manila and Department of Energy Philippines held the 4th Energy Transition Council (ETC) National Dialogue, in collaboration with the 2024 ETC co-leads, Asian Development Bank (ADB), Southeast Asia Energy Transition Partnership and World Resources Institute. Key stakeholders from government, development partners, private sector and advocates gathered to share experience, best practice and solutions in delivering a just transition, accelerating investments in grid and transmission infrastructure and fostering partnerships to drive urgent action towards the energy transition in the country. ETC, launched during COP26 and globally co-chaired by the UK and Philippine Energy Ministers, supports collaboration with partner countries, like the Philippines, to identify, coordinate and implement solutions for a more rapid energy transition.

We co-hosted a roundtable discussion with iProov attended by key stakeholders in the private and public sectors including Deputy Governor Chuchi Fonacier of the Bangko Central ng Pilipinas to discuss safeguarding our digital identities in the face of today’s rising security threats. With advanced authentication solutions like facial verification and liveness detection, iProov’s technology defends against identity theft, fraud, and deepfakes, keeping our online lives secure and protected. The UK and ADB share a commitment to fostering innovation, sustainability, and long-term development in Asia. The discussions at the Supply Chain and Procurement Conference highlighted how procurement and growing supply chains can be a powerful tool for economic growth, tackling climate change, and infrastructure development.

We’re building strong partnerships that foster growth and drive impact across the Philippines and the UK. In Manila, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Minister West and Department of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Lazaro discussed our ambitious #UKPHEnhancedPartnership, the UK-Philippines relationship and regional issues.

Minister West met Filipina peacebuilders to hear their experiences and challenges – and how their work is building a better future for all. The 🇬🇧 UK has provided over £13 million for peace and stability in the BARMM, with a focus on women, in peace and security.  We have supported 150 women mediators who are now working with their communities on conflict resolution. We have also supported local action plans, the empowerment of women peacebuilders, and promoted inclusion in governance structures.

Minister West visited La Mesa Ecopark as part of the UK’s ongoing commitment to addressing the climate and nature crisis and supporting those that are working to protect the environment. The UK 🇬🇧 remains committed to supporting the efforts of environmental defenders and protecting their rights.

Minister West visited La Mesa to see some of the Philippines’s unique flora at this important biodiversity site.  🇵🇭 is one of the most biodiversity-rich countries in the world – and one of the most climate vulnerable. The UK has supported Philippines NGOS working on biodiversity with more than £7m in grants.
