Se é que vai ter #COP30 em Belém. Imagine só quando eclodir o escândalo que já ferve nos bastidores: o Brasil tem um programa de governo que gera falsos créditos de carbono. O acordo entre MERCOSUR e European Union, bem como o Brasil anfitrionar a COP30 só ajudam o barco a afundar. For four years I have been reporting a surreal, absurd and heinous crime that is happening right now in #Brazil. The government program RenovaBio is a #200hundredbillionfraud, the result of a criminal association between corrupt politicians and ethanol producers. In addition to the crimes of #embezzlement, #marketreserve and #ideologicalfalsehood, the receipt of money from the compulsory sale of false carbon credits #cbio creates a market situation where there is no competition, since #Brazilianethanol ends up having a much lower price than its competitors. Furthermore, Brazil's #NDC is absolutely false, as it accounts for false emission reductions related to #Renovabio. I posted on LinkedIn the evaluation of the program. It is a complaint I made to the Ministério Público Federal. 🌍 Na abertura da COP29, o Brasil firmou compromissos voltados à participação das comunidades locais na UN Climate Change Em evento paralelo organizado pela OPAN e a Red MOCAF, com apoio do iCS, Alianza Mesoamericana de Pueblos y Bosques (AMPB), Asociación Utz Che’ e Fórum Popular Socioambiental de Mato Grosso (FORMAD), o governo brasileiro destacou a importância de uma representação efetiva dessas comunidades nas discussões sobre o enfrentamento à emergência climática, ressaltando o papel que desempenham para a proteção de territórios e da biodiversidade. 💬“Essas comunidades têm muito a contribuir com a luta contra as mudanças do clima, pois ocupam territórios importantes dos vários pontos de vista, inclusive como estoques e sumidouros de carbono, florestas importantes para a biodiversidade”, afirmou Marco Túlio Cabral, da Secretaria de Clima e Meio Ambiente do Ministério das Relações Exteriores. Should Brazil's agribusiness sector prioritize more ambitious climate action, such as stricter emission reduction goals, or rather focus on adaptation to climate change? This is a relevant and urgent question, as Brazil's agribusiness is a major contributor to the country’s greenhouse gas emissions, responsible for 75% of the nation’s emissions, including #deforestation. A compelling strategy for addressing these pertinent issues is proposed by several strategic partners of Good Energies Foundation, including Instituto Socioambiental, PSA - Projeto Saúde e Alegria, and Observatório do Clima. The opinion article published in Folha de S.Paulo highlights that some #agribusiness groups are lobbying to weaken #Brazil’s climate targets in the upcoming Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), despite international expectations for Brazil to lead in climate action, especially as the host of #COP30. A more compelling alternative NDC, however, is proposed by the Observatório do Clima, calling for a 92% reduction in net emissions by 2035, and including agricultural soil carbon sequestration in emission reductions. This plan is positioned as a more responsible approach, calling for the following actions: 1. End Destructive Legislation: Agribusiness should lobby for the removal of 25 bills and three constitutional amendments, referred to as the "package of destruction," which would weaken environmental protections and harm climate resilience. 2. Strengthen Penalties for Environmental Crimes: The sector should support harsher penalties for illegal deforestation and burning, which are particularly damaging amid ongoing fires across the country. 3. Stop Funding Embargoed Areas: Both public and private banks should cease financing for activities in embargoed areas, which are areas where deforestation and illegal activities have taken place. 4. Advocate for Ambitious NDC: Agribusiness should push the government for an NDC aligned with the 1.5°C global temperature goal, incorporating zero deforestation, full recovery of legal environmental obligations (Forest Code), and recognition of carbon removal by well-managed agricultural soils. The director of #COP29 was the target of a scandal. What will become of #COP30, considering that Brazil has a government program that generates false carbon credits? Brazil uses fake carbon credits, #cbio, from the criminal program #renovabio to meet its goals in the #parisagreement. The fraud represents US$200 billion in illicit proceeds that benefit only the sugar and ethanol sector. Brazil allows ethanol producers like Raízen to generate billions of liters of #vinasse, which is 18 times more polluting than sewage, dumping this waste into nature. They also generate false #carboncredit. In addition, #ethanol steals land from food production. Brazilian ethanol is synonymous with hunger. #Ethanol produces more CO2 emissions than gasoline or diesel. #Vinasse kills fish and poisons rivers, agricultural pesticides cause cancer in agricultural workers and poison indigenous children; #slavelabor. In addition to all this, the Brazilian sugar and ethanol sector invented a false carbon credit, which is a crime of market reserve, ideological falsehood and fraud.
