  • “Don’t be afraid to take a detour here and there. There’s no one set path in your creative journey,” says Rachel Poonsiriwong, recipient of the DesignSingapore Scholarship in 2017, sharing from experience. During a gap year, Rachel explored careers in art curation and theatre production before finding her calling in design. She also had a firsthand experience in using design to make a meaningful impact on the world when she took part in a hackathon that challenged participants to design for persons with disabilities. These experiences opened her eyes to design’s potential to solve complex societal issues and led her to choosing design as a professional career. The DesignSingapore Scholarship empowered Rachel to pursue Interaction Design at the California College of the Arts. She is now a product manager and designer at Terrascope, a climate tech startup helping companies reduce their carbon footprint. Have the passion to make a difference too? Discover how the DesignSingapore Scholarship can help you join the ranks of scholars like Rachel in championing a better tomorrow through design. Applications open till 4 April 2025!
