From the moment the sun rose, Scholastica, a Kenyan schoolgirl, would hurry to complete her chores and care for her cousins before preparing herself for the 90-minute walk to class. Today, with her Buffalo Bicycle, she maximizes every second of her day, attending extra study sessions, helping her family and even participating in extracurricular activities. 🇰🇪 Last week, WBR Kenya penned a landmark MOU with the County Government of Kakamega that would see at least 1500 Ward Climate Change Committee Members and Community Health Promoters receive Buffalo Bicycles in Kakamega County. 🚲 These bicycles would go a long way in aiding mobility and easing access to target clients and or households. In this partnership, the County government would procure 1000 bicycles and WBR would provide a match of 500 bicycles. 🤝 This indeed is a trailblazer for County in matters mobility, climate change action planning and service delivery improvement for the lowest but otherwise critical connectors within the Community Health Strategy Structure and Climate Change Action Sphere. In collaboration with the Jesuit Refugee Service, more than 300 students in Uganda recently received Buffalo Bicycles to address barriers to education due to distance. "The arrival of this bicycle represents a significant turning point in her life. This new means of transport symbolises hope, opportunity, and the potential for a brighter educational future for my daughter,” says the parent of a girl female bike recipient.

One of my favorite events of the year is coming up, and I’d love for you to join us! On November 14th in Chicago, World Bicycle Relief will host “Communities on the Move,” presented by Sterne, Kessler, Goldstein & Fox. It’s always an inspiring night—full of powerful stories, great conversations, and the collective impact of coming together to help communities thrive with life-changing bicycles. This year, we’re fortunate to have our very own Curt Harnett C.M., OLY, three-time Olympic medalist and managing director of World Bicycle Relief Canada, as our emcee for the evening. We’ll have a live auction, paddle raise, and entertainment too. But this event isn’t just about raising funds—it’s about celebrating your commitment to breaking down barriers for people in rural communities through bicycle mobility. I’d love to see you there. Since we officially expanded our work into Uganda last year, more than 1,300 students across the country have received Buffalo Bicycles to help them reach school on time, with the energy to learn. In a region where just 25% of students attend secondary school, we hope that, together, we can support children to attain the education they need to thrive. This story from UNICEF Zimbabwe shows how two wheels are making a world of difference in places where access is a huge challenge. We’re proud to partner with UNICEF to provide Buffalo Bicycles for this initiative. These bikes are a game-changer for healthcare workers who need a durable and reliable solution to navigate tough, rural terrain. By addressing the last-mile mobility gap, we’re ensuring that lifesaving healthcare reaches everyone, no matter where they live. At World Bicycle Relief, we believe that mobility opens doors to opportunities, and it's always great to see our bikes helping healthcare workers create real change on the ground. #MobilityForAll #PowerOfBicycles #LastMileMobility #HealthcareAccess #WorldBicycleRelief #Zimbabwe #UNICEF #RuralDevelopment #GlobalHealth #VaccinesWork

We’re committed to innovation💡and trying new things to support the communities we serve. That’s why we’re excited to share our newest pilot: a community-run spare parts store in Colombia 🇨🇴 ! The store empowers the community to take charge of their own success and provides a valuable source of income. Initially, our teams will work side by side with the community, learning the dynamics together. Ultimately, the local team will take sole ownership. We’re not just expanding our reach—we’re deepening our support, making sure that every community we partner with has the tools they need to succeed. Pleased to share recent coverage in @Gavi’s VaccineWorks, where I discussed how bicycles are supporting vaccine programs in rural Zimbabwe. While organizations like World Bank, World Health Organization, and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation provide the critical support to scale these programs, World Bicycle Relief is ensuring community health workers have the transportation they need to deliver vaccines and essential healthcare services to remote patients. By providing the last-mile mobility solutions, we’re helping to bridge the gap between healthcare providers and communities, ensuring that even the hardest-to-reach individuals can access life-saving vaccines and care. #LastMileHealth #PowerofBicycles #HealthcareAccess https://lnkd.in/dgbgpvih

Incredible to see the global impact of bicycles highlighted in this Business Insider article! From Bihar to Zambia, bicycles empower girls with access to education and opportunity—much like they did for women in the 19th-century suffrage movement. At World Bicycle Relief, we’ve seen firsthand how mobility transforms lives, particularly for young girls, helping them overcome barriers to education and unlock their full potential. It’s inspiring to be part of a movement that’s driving real change through something as simple—and powerful—as a bicycle.
