Save the Children Uganda
Non-profit Organizations
We work hand in hand with others to adapt and create new solutions for children facing crisis now and in the future.
About us
We have worked in Uganda since 1959 and have programmes throughout the country. We work in partnerships – with communities, the government, civil society and the private sector – to deliver programmes that have a lasting impact, inspire change and uphold children’s rights. Our work supports long-term development and humanitarian emergencies, and bridges the gap between the two.

Yesterday, we spotlighted the incredible work of Save the Children and #RuralFinanceInitiative (RUFI) microfinance, enabled by #USAIDSavesLives funding in Palabek Refugee Settlement! 🌍 USAID’s Uthabiti activity established the first microfinance institution in Palabek Refugee settlement and has digitally linked Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs), thereby enabling refugees and host communities to gain access to essential financial services that are transforming their lives. This collaboration showcases how private sector engagement and digital tools can foster long-term resilience and financial inclusion. Join us in supporting these life-changing initiatives! #RefugeeResilience #FinancialInclusion #Uthabiti #GrameenFoundation Mwesigwa Bikie Isharaza

Together with UGANDA CHILD RIGHTS NGO NETWORK - UCRNN we engaged children and parliamentarians on children’s rights and welfare. Children presented their concerns, especially the need to be protected from abuse and exploitation. “We need to have stronger child protection laws to prevent abuse, neglect, and exploitation of vulnerable children,” said Mark, one of the children at the dialogue. Robert Doya Nanima, a committee member of the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child pledged to influence funding for child mental health services, social care, and educational resources, ensuring that children have the services they need to thrive. Parliamentarians are committed to ensuring that children’s voices are considered in developing policies, especially those related to welfare, education, and protection. The rights of children to be heard in all matters that concern them is a priority for Save the Children in accordance with the child participation principles in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and regional child rights treaties such as the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACRWC).

Introducing numbers to children helps them develop their logical thinking early enough and get familiar with numbers at an early age since they are going to deal with numbers the rest of their lives. #LiteracyForAll

Our goal for all children, 3 to 17, particulary girls is to complete quality and relevant early childhood and basic education. #LiteracyDay2024 #LiteracyForAll

Today is International Literacy Day. At Save the Children Uganda, we improve access to quality learning, by training teachers, building infrastructure, providing equipment and promoting inclusive education. We also run early learning programmes for children under six and help older children who dropped out of school to return to education. #LiteracyDay2024 #LiteracyForAll
