We are architects and building consultants who believe places have the power to shape a more positive future
About us
We are architects and building consultants who believe places have the power to shape a more positive future - for the people who use them, for local communities, and for our planet. Working across nine UK offices, we deliver projects for clients in a variety of sectors – locally and internationally. Our multi-service approach gives us a complete understanding of the full life cycle of the built environment. By embracing innovation, and with expertise grounded in two centuries of practice, we deliver healthier, safer and smarter buildings and spaces. Led by the principles of creating social value and promoting sustainability, we work to connect people, places and the environment. We take responsibility for the impact of our work and the legacy we leave. Considering how our actions contribute to wider social, economic and environmental issues – and actively exploring opportunities to make a positive contribution. We are problem solvers and love the challenge each project brings. By embracing innovation and pushing the boundaries of design, we are reimagining the way we shape new or existing spaces and enhancing the way people experience them. We thrive on collaboration and believe that openly sharing knowledge helps generate positive change. With a brilliantly diverse team, working across multiple services, sectors and business support roles, we deliver the highest quality projects and client service. We continually strive to become a more inclusive practice. By creating open and supportive environments where everyone’s contribution is valid, we unlock creativity, inspire future generations and better understand the diverse communities we work in.

Sustainability begins with what we already have. 🏛️ Discover how we revitalised a historic building, preserving its heritage while making it more accessible and adaptable for modern use. A key part of the transformation of the Chatwin Building on the iconic Colmore Row, in the heart of the Birmingham business district, involved reorganising and reconfiguring the floor space to create an inclusive environment that works for everyone. Now, visitors and occupiers alike can move freely, experience the building’s rich history and enjoy a space designed for collaboration, wellbeing and future adaptability. 🎙️ Listen to our podcast episode, where Simon and Jennifer explore the value of repurposing existing spaces. They discuss the transformation of the building, sharing insights into how sustainable design and intelligent reuse can unlock hidden potential and add long-term value to our built environment. https://lnkd.in/eAUKQk-D #architecture #buildingconsultancy #reuse #adaptivereuse #historicbuildings #sustainabledesign #innovativesolutions

How are you celebrating World Book Day? 📚✨ Today, we’re recognising the power of books and how they can bring communities together. We believe that access to books and a welcoming space to enjoy them is essential in shaping a love of reading. That’s why we’re looking back at our work with Honley Library, a volunteer-run library in Huddersfield. Since its opening 1936, it has been an integral part of the community, inspiring a generation of readers. In line with our commitment to social value, we supported the library with design and planning application support, helping to create a more accessible, bright and welcoming environment, and a perfect spot for a read! Discover more about how we supported the library here: https://lnkd.in/dCG8JExj #architecture #buildingconsultancy #WorldBookDay #community #library #HonleyLibrary #socialvalue #support #books #reading #education

We’re proud to have supported Kirklees Council in restoring and protecting this historic building in Huddersfield town centre over a number of years. Our work has seen us convert the disused offices into residential flats, as part of their ‘Empty Clusters’ scheme in 2013, and more recently, we acted as Lead Designer and in an advisory role as Conservation Architect, to provide a programme of external fabric repairs to preserve the building for future generations. You can read more about our work on this fascinating Grade II* listed building by visiting our website, where you’ll also discover our other recent conservation and heritage projects in Huddersfield town centre, including The George Hotel, Byram Arcade, and the Town Hall. 👉 Read more: https://lnkd.in/eMsZ959c
Did you know England could gain 560,000-670,000 new homes by repairing and repurposing historic buildings? 🏡 Converting vacant historic spaces into homes could significantly contribute to the housing supply in England. Pictured is the Grade II* listed Estate Buildings in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. Unused and derelict since 2002, the council-owned building has now been partially repurposed for residential accommodation. Find out more: ➡️ https://lnkd.in/ePZV6A3Q
